so i bought this battery about 2 years ago and now it is already bulging out the sides. My first battery also suffered this bulge problem and i have no idea why they are doing it to me.

I park the car for the winter and i do take the battery inside the house. I also trickle charge the battery every 2nd week.

I know my battery is dead becaue 1) the bulge 2) even after a full 24 hrs of charging it barely starts the car.

so what is my problem here?? batteries are expensive buggers and i want my next one to last at least 5 years.

when the car is running it shows a consistent 14.5 V with my voltmeter....is that how to check the system?

advance auto, autozone, etc can check your charging system, but don't rely on them completely. Advance said my system was fine, even tho battery light was on, said light would go off in a couple days. couple days later, i replaced my alternator in McDonalds parking lot at 11:00 pm

I'm not sure what your problem is with the charging system but I will warn you against trying to charge that battery once you see it buldge. You could end up with it exploding.

My 2 cents...
