its true...

and yeah...i thought about how the engine was probably on its way to being swapped out....since the rest of the car looked pretty nice...but still. could have been put to better use...probably. sold maybe...or used to fix another car like it. but then dunno if that would have been worth it...

if hes reusing the car i guess its fine...and especially ok if the engine had issues...which is entirely possible....

Yeah i lump this dork in with all those people that go out, but an xbox and then smash it up....that car could have gone to a low income family that needed it :(

How exactly do we know why they did this? If the engine was toast anyway then they've done no harm.

I hear that in Britain you can buy cars for next to nothing from dealers that can't sell them and want to get rid of them to avoid the fees of proper disposal.

I think we need the whole story before we jump to conclusions...

Well for the most part, that is true - but then we have a draconian anti-car govt and associated laws that mean that yes, you can get a Ford Escort for £20 down your local pub, yes, it will be clinging to two weeks tax and test, but when it doesnt or wont pass the MOT, you will have to pay £150 for it to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

Aso, we have road tax here, fuel prices approaching $10 a gallon, insurance thats through the roof, owning a car here isnt cheap, or economically viable for poor woman with 3 kids. Hell, she's going to be lucky if she can afford a bus ride!

However, i saw nothing in that video that indicated that there was anything wrong with the engine, just that the bodywork was rusted badly.

Makes me wonder how anyone can afford to drive there Kai. Ouch :aigo:

sounds to me like the people need to rebel against their government.

Yeah, it'll never happen though - we're all annoyed, yet too apathetic to do anything about it :D

I have real trouble keeping the supe running, when it does, that is, it'll eat through £80 of fuel in a week driving it LOCALLY, ie 2/3 mile trips to the shops, friends etc, insurance is £400 a year, my road tax is £210 a year next year, up from £185 a year this year, and to top it all off, the govt are trying to find some way of getting rid of all cars older than 15 years old - ie, making classic cars illegal :/

They're already banning cars in town centres that are older than 1992 (when the emissions crap came in here).

Fuel is currently £1.08 per litre for 98 RON, £1.01 a litre for 95 RON, which goes like this:

£1.01 per litre x 3.785 = £3.82 per US Gallon, so x2 to make it $7.62
£1.08 per litre x 3.785 = £4.09 per US Gallon, so x2 to make it $8.18

National minimum wage here is £5.52/hour, though most places give you an extra 10p on top of that so they dont look like tightarses. That may sound like a lot, but consider the cost of living here....you're probably better off.

Jeez, I wont be packin my bags for the U.K. anytime soon.

Kai....
But I really dont see how destroying this car is really affecting anything. You just explained to us that the car itself is dirt cheap and that its the cost of maintaining and running the vehicle that hinders the poor from driving.

I'm confused. It seems you just argued against your original point.

Not trying to be an ass, but I'm not understanding.
