The gearing will be horrible with the stock diff. I have never seen anyone write up how to do a six speed swap in a MKIII with a getrag but assuming some good fabrication skills and a welder, it can be done.

The only way to put a 6 speed getrag on the mk3 Supra is to get the V161 trans (97-02 mk4s),which has longer
gears vs the V161 trans (93-97)....but shorter 6th gear. Also get big wheels (tire/rim combo),to help the gear also.
And if possible to find the 3.5 gear and pinion. A guy or two,do have this ring and pinion and they are a member of
Supramania.... Then it will be OK to have the 6 speed getrag!

And do NOT even think about a t56.. they are weak! I have a few GM buddies and i asked them how stout they are.. They have already been through a few with just bolt-ons and the tranny's where built, its rather sad.

Getrag all the way. Imagine if Marlin started making billet parts for the V160 and V161....:aigo:
The fbody community refers to the t56 as the rear-end sledgehammer...that tranny has destroyed more diffs from hard shifting than GM has put into those cars. Idk why anyone would call it weak, it's easily one of the more durable and versatile gearboxes of recent years.
On the other hand, the v160/161 bolts right up to a 2jz. It's meant to be. Plus, who doesn't want an entire mk4 drivetrain in their mk3?

Looks like the 6 speed swap will be going in sooner then I thought. Will be a V160 with a carbonitics twin plate clutch. Going to run a 3.73 rear end for now but we do have a 6 speed rear end as well that may go in eventually. The main reason we are doing the swap is because our 5 speed is leaking so we figure why not upgrade lol. We do know the gearing is going to be crap but that is okay for now.

Because this build is taking so long we keep adding more parts to make the build even longer! haha. Few more parts going on are authentic greddy intake manifold, 3.73 rear end with a TRD LSD, and maybe even a billet ball bearing pt67 turbo lol.
No, I think you really should listen to the guys telling you not to go with the v160. So, since I am such a nice guy and all that and simply concerned about you having far too many parts just kicking around....I will take it from you,ok?
