That's exactly what I was thinking. You'd just have to figure out exctly where to put 'em.

If you do decide to do this, post some pics of where you're thinking of locating them.

WHY?

Why do people insist on trying to make the supra something its not? H4's in hella e-codes will do everything and more than you should need and give modern performace with next to zero modification to the factory system. If you want inspiration as to how it should be done look at Bluechulappa's build thread. Its no wonder you have shitty cutoff with those cheap ebay housings.

As far as I can see you are simply tying to fit a round peg in a square hole. The blocks I used to play with when I was 2 taught me this was pointless.

I dont mean this as a personal attack, but wtf are you thinking? I swear some people just dont know when to leave well enough alone or have WAY too much time on their hands. Seriously, even just putting factory glass halogens back in there would be better than those ebay things.

Why must you be so harsh......your opinion doesn't give you the right to be an ass!

I say save the headlights for driving lights. I forget which front spoiler it is, but it has round driving light cutous, and I think they'd work in that nicely.

You guys know which one I'm talking about- someone toss up a pic.

Not everyone is trying to restore a Supra back to its glory as you mention it. I agree a lot of headlight "jobs" are poor and don't look good but there are some cars that pull it off nicely.

I.E. SupraNick's car looks great with the dual round lights.

Also what if someone want to lower the headlight retraction for a more 'sleek' look, it looks very crappy with half the H4 housing covered up.

I'm definitely for unique things so I would like to see this done one way or another. But I'm not really feeling the round much either.... Even the Evo bumper is 'blah' to me. Nicely and properly done headlights are always good to see!

Miatas have round headlights in square frames. I think its ugly personally, but I didnt buy the car off of looks.

After seeing it in the frame from the above picture, it might not be so bad. We'll see.

Speaking of Miatas, those are Miata e-fans on the left, arent they?

Personally i've always said, don't knock it till you've seen the finished project. Were just talking headlights here. fairly simple thing to change. it's not like were talking about deleting brakes or removing seatbelts.

oh..... and his headlight thing is an aesthetic thing to btw... so long as they work thats all that matters with lights. how they look while they work makes it an appearance mod. :p

It is this kind of neglect that leads to BAD things.

Headlights are a VITAL part on the car... like brakes and seatbelts. You don't Fu@# with these on a whim.

If you saw some VERY cool rotors on Ebay but they were made of cardboard would you run them? Let's say you were guaranteed to woo women if you had these rotors... Now would you run them? Cardboard rotors... But they are teh hotness!

NO! You're not THAT stupid - I hope.

IF you only ever drive during the day then fine. But why invest the time and energy into an upgrade if you never use your headlights?

Or do you think you know better than those highly paid people that design vehicle lighting? I mean sure.... I'll admit that there may be a lighting engineer on here somewhere but I highly doubt that you are one.

There is a HUGE difference between sticking some home depot trim on the front and changing the headlights.

You can not only endanger yourself... but also put other drivers at risk.

Do not drag us down into the depths of the box of rice a roni with you by doing this upgrade.

If you need to upgrade your lighting here is the steps you should consider first.

1: Rewire - do the standard headlight rewire using relays to pulll clean power directly rather than going through those tiny wires into the dash and back.

2: Hella H4 upgrade with a quality H4 bulb - and no... we're not talking about those diamond cut lenses on ebay or any bulb marketed with "Hyper", "Extreme", etc followed by "White".

3: ONLY once you've done the first two items on this list and you have some hefty coin to invest should you consider changing to a custom setup.

if you can make it look like the one from the 850 series bmw from the 90's it will look good plus if you can have the pop up go half its height like the bmw. just my 2 cents.

KeithH - I'm with you about how vital headlights are. And modding them willie-nillie is NOT a good idea.

(here it is!) HOWEVER, you've contridicted yourself a bit in your post. You talk about needing to "be lighting engineer" yet you mention doing a rewire that is "standard." Why would anyone have to do a rewire if the lighting/electircal engineers did everything so perfectly on the MKIII?

This is an upgrade if it is done safely and properly. No, it's not for just anyone. Everything should be done meticulously to ensure his and others' on the roads safety. But it can be done, and done right, even if the initial purpose was a cosmetic upgrade.

I am with you and many others on the point: don't go custom until you've tried and exhausted all other replacement lighting avenues. Think of other drivers and your saftey before making your car look unique/cool.

Of course even the lighting / wiring engineers have to take an occasional shortcut. Is the MkIII lighting the best it possibly can be from the factory? No.

One of the best resources for lighting that I've ever found is www.danielsternlighting.com - although it appears that the site is offline as I type this.

This site explains why rewiring the stock headlights is an improvement.

Too many people just stick "some" light in the front of their car without thinking about the drawbacks. "Hey... a driving light shines further than a headlight and that has to be good... right?" NO!

A qualified engineer will make the light shine the best for the situation. Fog Lights / Driving Lights are AUX lights - NOT a main light. These lights were designed for a specific purpose.

Rewiring will just give the best possible power directly to the light - allowing it to produce the best possible illumination. You don't need to be a lighting engineer to rewire for cleaner power to the light itself.
