I recently had undergone an extreme engine makeover, etc...When I start the car, it shoots blue smoke out and I was wondering why? Compression was checked 165 across the board. Ran oil catch can from valve covers to can to intake pipe, is that correct? On April 2006, I sent in the turbo to SP for a rebuilt and crap. What do you think that will cause this? Thanks for your input.

50/50 it's not stem seals. Many people think they are bad, but are not and is caused by something else.

Put your pcv system back to stock... and try again.

Also, your turbo could have been rebuilt poorly... and do you have a restrictor for your oil feed line?

My 7m smoked on startup, it was white/blueish smoke. Had the head rebuilt, new stem seals, new valves... same smoke.

Do a search, other people have had this problem, it's something other than stem seals.

MY opinion, is blowby and oil film in the intake, either by worn rings, or malfunctioning pcv system, or bad turbo seals. In the morning, you cold start the engine, cold start injector goes off, oil film and gas go into the combustion chamber... boom, SMOKE.

check your turbo for play, check your intake trac for oil film (doubt this is it but still), check valve covers (possibly leaking oil into the center spark plug galley and it drips down), maybe valve stem seals.

whats your oil consumption look like?

take out the spark plugs before running the engine, and look at the pistons with a flashlight
if it's the valve seals you see oil on some pistons

I took out all the spark plugs only to find #3 plug wire barely connected and #6 not connected (the shop must've forgotten). I also took a flashlight and looked into all cylinder's only to find everything dry except #3 and #6. #3 was a tiny bit moist, #6 was a little more moist. Moistness could be from fuel not combusting

I changed the plugs with fresh ones and re-connected all the wires and started the car, no blue smoke at all. I took it out for a test drive and NO blue smoke at 1.4 bar.

Is it because #3 and #6 was not connected that was causing the blue smoke? Also, the car was NOT missing at all. I was wondering why it was so sluggish when I took it out on Saturday.

Appears you mistook dark/sooty smoke from a rich condition/incomplete combustion for blue smoke caused by oil.
They do look a lot alike. Glad it was simple ;)

Actually no, my cousin's were in another car and they saw blue smoke everytime I took off. As far me looking for blue smoke, I only look at my side mirrors because my rear hatch window is tinted blue :). Everybody saw blue smoke, so I know I'm not color blind.

By the way, the catch can has two inlet's on top for each valve cover, the vacuum source is at the bottom going to the intake pipe. Is that correct?

Well, I'll have some updated pics of the engine soon and you can see if the catch can was run correctly. I can post pics now, but I want to wait a bit, just a little bit more cleaning to do. Or maybe I should wait until the magazine comes out?
