Save some time effort and heartache and get it surfaced....

All it takes is one imperfection to ruin your day as an MHG will NOT conform to the deck and head surfaces if they're less than perfect.

If using a composite gasket you "may" get away with a clean up using a sharp scraper after checking that the deck is not warped.

What all has to be offiially off before I take it to be machined, and what's this about getting my timing cover machined too

I have not done it but I believe people have had success lapping the block. I am not sure what this all entails.

Only really appliciable to a freshly surfaced block Dave, human physiology won't allow the surface to remain flat/true for long when lapping.

Think of lapping as a finishing process.

Someone correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure anything under 25-30 RA is good and will hold a MHG.

I know HKS has a specific RA limit on there gaskets that they recommend staying under, maybe thats where im getting
the 25-30? Regardless the lower the better.

Just make sure they have a 7M torque plate, if not, keep looking.

I see your in the georgia area so im sure supracentral could give you some
really good reputable machine shops, and others on here could too.

But anyways most machine shops will know what there doing, but dont be afraid to check there work...
When you get the head back, run your finger nail across the head and make sure it doesn't get caught.

Do you know what a torque plate is used for? Here's a hint.....its NOT used for re-surfacing a block! :)

Guys chill a lil on failure, I'm sure he/she didy mean to misinform me, an yea I usually call tubby at least once or twice a week, he's done all my major work that I don't know how/ don't feel like doing, him and his brother are the only ones I trust with my car for any length of time

I never said anything about surfacing a block with a torque plate rofl?
What part of my post says anything close to "When they resurface the block/head make sure they use a torque plate" ?

And the OP never mentioned ANYTHING about having the block bored so why does he need to ensure they have a torque plate.

This is NOT going to turn into the standard Failure Bullshit argument thread and as he's been warned about posting misinformation in the Tech section before he gets a week off.
