Second UPDATE : Block look like junk...IT look like the pit are way to depth and the gasket will never be able to seal. I can't understand why they dont tell me that this block is junk. + I took some pics of the cylinder wall, there is rust in it. I can't feel it but we easily see eat. LEt me know if its really junk and i will ask for a refund on the block labours ( decking + man hour)
The head : i put my vernier on it : 115.75mm, so it look like a will be able to get a better finish of this one.
DOes the bearing are reusable?? They are set with the crank ( which is good) only or with the block and crank?? ( want to know if i ask for a refund this too) thanks

HI, i just received my block coming from the machine shop. I ask the guy to make the block as smooth as possible and they tell me then can get it really smooth. Decided to give them a try. Now, look at my block surface, what do you think about it? To me, it look like crap and i will not be able to use my Cometic MHG (1.8mm thick). We can see rough surface near the #6 cylinder.

Is it possible to get the block surface machined in an other machine shop to get better surface without removing the piston?? I have new piston inside + new bearing and etc and dont want to get it out a second time. I was thinking about filling the cylinder with grease.

What to do?? THANks to help me.

They called that *really smooth*? That's ridiculous. If they think that's smooth, I'd be worried about it even being FLAT.

I always talk RA numbers at the machine shop. When they have no idea what I'm talking about, I walk away.

If I were in your shoes, I'd pull it apart and have it machined again, at a shop where they know WTF they are doing. I've had blocks delivered to me that were finished so well, you could use them as a mirror. To be honest, I don't know if it's possible to have it cut without pulling the pistons... however, installing the pistons, rods, and crank isn't that much effort.

I don't think I'd be giving them a second chance if they think that's an acceptable build, I also WOULDN'T be running that engine without tearing it down for inspection.....

Yikes, my head and block both were done to about a RA value of 12-14... like GrimJack said, should be like a mirror... As far as I am aware there is no way to have it machined right without dis-assembling it... Good Luck, for sure find a new machine shop and ask for a refund from Barney and Ruble's hack em up shop...

Admittedly it's probably flat and fine, they just didn't cut enough off (looks like bad erosion). Fire rings will seal, doubt the coolant rings will seal though...

Assume the machine shop assembled it...

Exact, since it was my first engine rebuild, i decided to go that way. It was a stupid idea. I know i will need to bring the block to an other machine shop but it piss me off since i pay too much $$$ for that crappy job.

I'm pretty sure you could get IJ or someone to get you some pics of what the block surface should look like and take that to the shop and show them what they should of done.

Do you have any better pics of it ? A pics where we could see the surface finish better.

Not really, it comes off the machine like glass I then Lap it with Diamond paste and that gives the Dull Grey finish pictured, there should be 0 sign of pitting in the deck surface once cut even if that means using a thicker MHG to compensate for the material removed.

Is this an early or late block?

DOnt know the year of the block, its supposed to be a jdm one but i know there is no difference. Block was never deck before and the machine shop remove .3mm of it.
