Impossible, JZ's have unblow-able head gaskets and anti-knock rod bearings. Not to mention the uber-tanium internals that cant break even if you put a 1000hp shot of Nawz on it. Your thinking of the 7m.... :D

Wait, r u thinking of the 2jzgte? If not, he seems to have done the "impossible", then.

It's not any harder to break a 2J.

It's pretty easy, really.

People are just trying to make funny-haha jokes about Supra engines, and they aren't funny at all.....

I have given my input already, so I will ask the question that has yet to be asked.

How in the HELL did you blow up your 1J??????

no... its pretty hard, and i did it. it took A LOT to blow that motor. ask any of my local supra buddies, that motor has been beat on since i've had it, which has been 3 1/2 years, daily driven and pushed to its limits. looking back in hindsight, i can tell you how and why it blew, and had i known better, i could have prevented it.

it was 4 in the morning and a friend and i were on our way home after a long night, the freeway was empty, long and straight, and 6 lanes wide, newly paved (the freeways are a dream in phoenix). i had just swapped out my rear end a month prior to a 4.30 lsd and wanted to see what the car would top out at with the new gears... (first mistake). so i drop it to 4th, pull from 75 to about 120, put it in fifth and continue to let it pull as long as it could. as the rpms got higher (maybe around 6k) i noticed it start to feel like it was pulling less hard. it was still pulling, just not as much. at this point i believe it began detonating. water temp and oil press were solid, but i didnt know any better and stayed on it. we got to around 155-160 (~6500rpm) and then all of a sudden it started smoking HEAVILY out the back. way worse than either time i blew one of the twins. immediately i went into neutral and coasted at idle to my exit (less than a half mile, and at that speed only took a few (10) seconds to get off the freeway. i thought uh oh, did i just blow another turbo? we drove another 1/4 mile to a grocery store parking lot and shut it off. popped the hood, and there was oil all over everything. i walked another half mile home, and drove my brother's car back to the parking lot and took my buddy home to wait til the next day to really look at it.

the next day i pulled the plugs, and the one to #5 was busted. we put new plugs in and started it up. you can hear it missing, feel air being pushed out of the oil cap, and it smokes like a mother. that piston is cracked. and i was only running 12 lbs of boost on stock twins. but i believe it was a weak fuel pump that caused it to lean out. i'll post a video of the day after in a minute

As a member of the "I blew a 1JZ" crowd, I will agree with what everyone is saying.

Keep the car until you can afford to put a 1.5JZ into it, and don't look back.

I seized my motor coming off the highway, and locked my rear-end up .....

.....then I got made fun of all weekend by other Supra owners.

Holy crap thats a lot of smoke. I Deffinately think something is busted..
Tear it down to see what happened. If Nothing too terribly happened, you might be able to rebuild.

Any of the JZ series. The 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 all of them are indestructible. its the 7m that blows up over something as stupid as low tire pressure. Do a search on supraforums you'll see......

All these blown up JZ stories are just made up.......funny guys.

Defiantly keep the car, especially if you have parts that you hunted down to find. chances of having another will be slim to none.

The Juggernaut has my old
mmmmm put a 7mgte in it....:icon_wink . Im just partial to the 7m though...

seriously though id keep it and since youve got most of the cost out of the way for a 2jz id either put a 2jzgte bottom end (1.5jz) in it or put a full 2jzgte engine in it.... either way you will be alot happier than if you would have sold it.... I sold my first supra and wish i never would have.. ive got the one I got now because I got very lucky on how it come about that i come across the car... its hard to find these cars in good shape... and will only get harder in the future...
