So I'm a complete car/supra noob.. and I just happened to buy a supra at the same time as NexiusEvaro did. Both in the same city.
Mine's 89 Supra Turbo A/T Targa. I think it has the Sport package, too.
The car has a rebuilt motor but something went wrong and it stopped working after about 600 miles... the guy got tired of messing with it and sold it to me.
It even started once when I was looking at it!
He told me that it had a bad alternator and ecu. The ABS was, supposedly, going out as well.

After about 2 weeks, I have taken the alternator to a shop, confirmed it was bad. The whole ECU thing is a bit questionable...

So we checked the spark plugs, etc... everything looked ok. The car just wouldnt start... It would crank but wouldnt start.
During my first week of learning I stumbled on some thread with a person having a similar problem. Someone suggested that there may not be enough gas in the car... but even after he filled it with 5gal it didn't help.

Apparently it was MY issue :D
At first, we got some gas and it didn't make a difference, so we kinda left that idea and went with the whole BAD ECU thing...
Today, my friend just kept cranking it... and it finally started. But it ran weak, etc. So he went and got MORE gas and BINGO! The car starts like a charm :)

I still have to stop by the garage and find out if the EC light is on....

BTW, here's the vid of the first start :D

hmmm... sounds like that could be a wiring issue, when it doesn't start, try wiggling the CPS wires a bit, that's what I have to do to mine once in a while, and I have read about it on countless threads... Do you get any codes?

Damn! She's to' up from the flo' up! <jk> With a little elbow grease and a paint job, it will look worlds better...oh, and remind me to never paint any car that horrible beige/eggshell color, that shouldn't even be legal!

P.S. And strip those sawblades!

just got back.. the EC light does not even come on.. which I assume is good.
However, I have no idea what the yellow light on the left is for.. It's right above the coin holders. :/

lol I hear ya..
unfortunately, there isnt much choice here in MT...
I gotta get the engine up to par first. suspension next.. it seems a bit worn.

The body itself seems to be in a decent shape. There's a tiny ding on the passenger door. The interior is dusty but no stains.. gotta vacum it still.

That yellow bumper... yeah.. for some reason it's stock grey underneath. Makes me wonder... LOL.

Speaking of yellow. At this point thats the color I want to paint it :naughty:

Light above the coin holders?

Does it resemble a bird cage or the front of a museum? If so, then your coolant reservoir is low/dry. It's actually a picture of a radiator, but it looks like all kinds of other things to people.

Haha yes! Exactly what I was going to say. The first time that came on for me, I thought it was a bird cage and so did everyone else I showed it to.

Well, I'm not sure why it's not making the sound that you guys are expecting :/.
It seems to be starting on and off, though. Not sure why, yet.

BTW, yes, that light was for radiator fluid... not very obvious :p

So, I also went to register it today... and that didn't quite work out! The whole state system was down... even their website. How funny is that?

Oh yeah, thanks to mcpcola for looking at the car today...
Apparently, I didn't get ripped off! Lucky me.

The little puddle under the car seems to be my power steering leaking...

So, here are the things that need to be taken care of at the moment that I know of:

alternator (getting new one tomorrow?)
power steering leaks
ABS not working (possibly computer?)
timing belt needs to be adjusted (thanks mcpcola)
car not starting half the time..
interior needs cleaning
shocks
needs new tires/wheels
paintjob!

Hopefully, not many more things to fix

Oh, there WILL be, there always is...lol

But yea, seriously, it doesn't sound too bad, your intermittent starting problem sounds like it's probably a wiring issue, bad connection somewhere, probably the CPS, check it! Also check the Coil Pack connectors, like when it won't start, wiggle them, and try to start again... Have you checked all of your fuses?
