This guy on eBay makes Mk4 billet rear diff covers:

I asked him about the Mk3, and he was open to the idea, if enough people showed interrest.
His e-mail is: majestic@ec.rr.com

Just for some thought..........

I can think of zero people who need this diff cover. If you're making that kind of power, get a six speed Mk4 diff and install that with the billet cover, as you'll need a beefier diff anyway.

Are our(mk3) diff covers really considered to be a weak part? I don't think I've seen anyone break a diff. cover on an MK3. The subframe connections seem to be somewhat of an issue.

Usually it is something internal like the differential itself or failure caused by the factory crush sleeve.

IIRC our diffs don't mount the same way and our covers are simply covers and not load bearing...

If anything, I'd like to see a cover closer to the stock MKIV style as they built "coolers" into it.

Funny, if they are not load bearing,
why do the sub-frames break around the 4 bolts that go into the diff cober ?
I suggest that you pull the 4 bolts out of yours, and try driving it, if you really think that it is just a cover.

Agreed, I have personally never seen a broken Mk3 cover,
that just may be a Mk4 shortcoming,
And that the back of our subframe is the weak point at this point.
(many threads about how to make them stronger already)

Just threw the info out there..........

I agree with Poodles in it would be nice to have more cooling fins on one.

Yup, $800 is a lot.
Maybe the chinese will make a knock-off for $150, so people who bearly can afford to keep their Mk3 running can afford one.
Of course, being chinese, it won't fit, there will be flaws in the material, and it will leak.
Much like the chinese aluminum knock-off oil pans for the Nissan engines.
The GReddy pans cost money,
but look!, there is a chinese one for 10 cents on the dollar!

honestly this could be made for much less in the US, with virgin billet and a CNC machine. but the company wants to make some $$, which isnt a bad thing, except instead of clamoring for a knock off i'd rather just draw up my own in autocad and have a CNC shop make it for me :)

the interior contours look like they were finished with a small ballmill, so I doubt the covers could be priced lower while still turning a decent profit. if you think you can do it, by all means, give it a shot and let us know how much it will cost.

it's sad to see people assuming they could get it made for less and trashing the business for trying to make a profit. i dont make parts (aside from one-offs for myself) unless i will make money, my time isnt free.

The picture they have of the drag mk4's ass hitting the pavement is probably how the covers get destroyed, not street driving. If your car launches hard enough that the diff. slaps the asphalt, then this is for you. Duane comes to mind :icon_bigg

Wow, somebody's not bitter about cheap parts......

I think we can all agree that this part serves no purpose for the Mk3 and that there's nobody who wants to spend the money on it. We can probably lock this thread down now.
