It's one of those things I will figure out as I go.

I called ATI today about a custom pulley and they said:
"Custom crank pulleys require a $250 non-refundable deposit to make technical drawings, then the pulley will cost somewhere between $600 and $1000 and will take 6 months or more to make."

I don't know what kind of crack he was on but it must have been good shit :aigo:

Time to go to plan B.

fuck that you can design your own if you are at all proficient with cad programs.. try emachineshop.com you can download their program and design your own parts, using whatever material you choose, and simply email the design to the shop after you've completed it.. not too sure what the final costs are like yet but it'll save you money nonetheless... not to mention its just kinda cool jerkin around with the program... :squirt-mo

Here are a few pics of the 5m crank with the 7m timing cover on the block. As you can see there is not much crank sticking out to work with for a custom pulley, and the 5m pulley would rub on the aluminum cover. I think I am going to have our crank shop make the end of the 5m crank just like the 7m crank. This will require cutting the smaller diameter part off and welding a larger diameter chromoly piece on the end of the 5m crank. Then it will be machined to the right diameter and new keyways cut into it along with new threads tapped.

I am also thinking about knife edging the crank, and getting a lightened flywheel, along with 264 cams and upgraded valve springs with shim under buckets, and a better sounding exhaust. I want it to sound sweet and rev very quickly to about a 8500rpm redline.

Next thing I need to think about is the oil pump and pickup.

ok i think i missed somethin.. is this goin to be a nasty rev happy NA? if not what are you planning on running for a turbo?

oh and thats a great idea, lengthening the crank sounds like a much better idea.. keep it up aaron

So? Does the 7m head flow better than the 5m or what?

I think so also, but I need to know. Has anyone done a real flow benchmark

aaron, the 6m is basically an early 7m with a 5m head on it right?
motor size valves horsepower torque
5MGE 2.8L DOHC, 12v 145/161@5200 157@4600
6MGE 3.0L DOHC, 12v 190@5600 192@4400
7MGE 3.0L DOHC, 24v 200@6000 185@4800

although there was less horsepower, the horsepower was made lower, and there was more torque made lower.

seems like a fair tradeoff, more torque for horsepower.

BTW, anyone know if you can run a 5m head on a 7m block with it running off of 7mge electronics? or if there are less ccs in the 5m head that could bump the compression?

The low 5mge hp output is partially because of the lower 8.8:1 compression on the 5mge, if it had the same 9.2:1 compression ratio as the 7mge it would probably be closer in power output.
