OK, following the lines of my quest for exhaust piping, where can I find stainless at a good price? I need the hook up... Dont say Burns, that place has ridiculous pricing... *$114 for a 3.5" U-bend with 6" legs, jesus...

So, does anyone have the hook up on 3.5" stainless?

the #1 best/super cheap place that i have found is to go to a metal scrap yard,
they take alumn. copper. etc.etc and Stainless;)
the best part is they buy and sell it by the pound:icon_bigg

i usually have to go once or twice to get what i'm looking for, but to put it into perspective i just bought 2x 90 deg. 2.5" alum. mandrel pipes for my ic piping for $2.00 cad <<<not a typo ;)

Thats right...There's one in Nor Cal. I bought 2.75" 6061 Aluminum 8 ft long for $12.00

You might want to look for local scrap yards in your area.

Cheers,
Roy

Well, this is the cheapest Ive found for stainless... They just dont have the U-bends or J-bends... They arent a car place or an exhaust company, but stainless 304 16g is stainless 304 16g no matter where it comes from... ;)

90*s are easier to work with (at least for me, I dont have a bandsaw.. which might make it easier.. i just have a cutoff saw)

Pipe and tubing are two different things... Last I checked, HD doesnt carry 3.5" stainless tubing... or 3.5" anything... maybe PVC pipe... Hmmmmmmm... PVC pipe for my exhaust... Might last 30 seconds, but worth a shot!!!:biglaugh:

I get all my aluminized tubing from them. Cheap u-bends and piping. The shipping is very cheap and fast.

I'm not sure of the SS tubing. I'm too poor for that :icon_bigg . Good luck Jake.

I wouldn't go with aluminized... I work for a company that manufactures exhaust systems for new ford/mazda and GM vehicles... We have a couple lines that use aluminized steel and that material is a bitch... Using Fabcor 409 weld wire (what we use on most of our stainless applications) comes out crappy looking. It is a PITA to bend, real hard on bender tooling. And it is generally thinner than the stainless from what we get.

I think that aluminized is real easy to weld. I'm using a Lincoln weldpak gasless flux cored and it makes some clean welds on the aluminized steel. It's a hellava lot cheaper as well. My theory is that stainless is nice looking and won't rust. But, it is under the car and not even seen. I'd rather spend a third of the price on aluminized and if it rust a couple years down the road, I'll just redo it for cheap.

Just my 2 cents.

Mark: thanks again for that pipe, it is NICE! And you'll see it in action too... I spent last weekend fabing it up, cutting and taping it, now Rob is going to weld it up... I wish I had one more 45* bend though, but thats ok, I just did a few pie cuts and we should be able to clean up the inside nice before welding on the next piece...

Justin: my car sits LOW... I guess you never saw it in person, but I posted a pic where my fist was on the ground and the top of my fist was touching the lip... Besides, 3.5 is plenty for that teeny turbo Im using, lol...

AF1: I hear what your saying... thats part of my mental debate with myself... If I go aluminized, I could always sell it later and make my money back, plus, if I screw up a cut, it wont be nearly as costly of a mistake... but I dunno... I just gotta check the funds...

Sleeper: You never found anything at HD? You must not own an MKIII, because most of the MKIV guys think thats where we get all our mods, lol... BTW: that site has some good prices man... But, no 3.5" anything... :(
