Can anyone tell me why you have to hook-up the avcr solenoid differently with an external wastegate than an internal wastegate?

internal:

external:

The big difference is that with the internal set-up the solenoid directly controls the wastegate and with the external set-up it acts as a bleeder.

Is this because the solenoid can't handle the bigger flow of air and higher boost which you get with a bigger turbo that normally goes with an external wastegate?

External wastegates work differently than internal wastegates.

can you elaborate?
as far as i know both work with spring loaded actuators, only difference i can see is an external WG is bigger and needs more pressure to operate

I think it has to do something with how the wastegate is ? Either closed or open.
i don't follow..., both are normally closed untill opened at a certain pressure

I come from a land down under
The Internal Gate hookup on the AVCR is a simple bleed of the + signal

so 10 psi spring/10 psi signal bleed 5 psi = 15 psi boost.

Doing it this way you'll get to a point where the boost will blow the valve off the seat and you can't hold boost.

The External one uses + pressure on the back of the diaphram to achieve the desired boost pressure.

10 psi spring/10 psi signal/5 psi into the back of the diaphram = 15 psi boost.

Doesn't have the above mechanical limitation allowing the use of a very light spring for normal low boost driving.

Ninja edit haha

What are you running anyways? just hook it up like the picture... seems pretty simple to me.
i'm running a sp67 with a 50mm WG on a 1.5jz
i have it hooked up like the second example, that's not the problem
the problems i have is that i get spikes in 4th and 5th which i can't tune out and i can't get a steady boost, i've tried playing with all settings like feedback speed and start duty.
I have my avcr for years and know how to operate it, but somehow since i went big single i can't get a steady boost, it goes up to 90% dutycycle and i'm only aiming for 18psi but it spikes to 21psi in 4th and 5th which i don't like because i only use pumpgas and that's pushing it

thx for the info

but what would cause the boost to spike when it's hooked up like the second example?

Next time I have the hood up I'll check how I plumbed mine.

I seem to remember something about a 2mm restrictor in the line to the WG to prevent it overshooting.

<Ninja Edit> This is how I plumbed mine this time (Been using Internal for many many years now)

so you have the poppet type WG (external), but have it hooked up like the flap type WG (internal)?

so i could use the avcr internal set-up for my situation as well?
