Autometer cluster idea

Ok, i have seen a few pictures, of a cluster floating around on here a few months ago, and all the gauges where autometer carbonfiber series. I want to do this SOOO f-ing badly, i am having a pile of trouble trying to retain the autometer boost, oil press., and water temp in the factory cluster. The wiring behind it is the biggest mess ever, and it is so difficult and frustrating trying to pull the culster, and reinstalling it is a fucking nightmare. I have had training on building carbonfiber, and fiberglass parts, and i want to make the new panel a fitted sheet of carbon fiber.

The biggest question i have is, can you switch to a halleffect sensor or any other type of setup for the speedo, without eliminating communications to the TCCS? if i can get this going, im going to try and do a write up on it... mainly just to show how to produce carbonfiber peices. I really need to do this next, im sure someone is having the same problem as me, or has adapted an aftermarket speedo!:1zhelp:

Hey thanks Figgie. I called autometer today and the sent me to a place called speedometer solutions, i called the guy and im getting an adapter from him for like $98, it screws where the old cable used too, at the back of the trans.

Now what i was thinking is, deleting the two heater vents that are grouped togeather on the right side of the cluster to have room for the spec b, turbo timer, and my PLX gauge. im going to keep the vent closest too the door. As far as materials... i finally want a decently styled interior, so im going to go with a fiberglass plate wraped in a milky brown leather(to match the rest of the interior). i should be starting on this within the month.:naughty:

you are aware that the stock speedo does provide a speed (SPD) signal to the TCCS right?

I am aware of that, and thats why i started the thread. If you look at the online instructions for any of the autometer speedos, they have a 5v terminal output for an auxilary, maybe that could help. O and if replace the stock one will i be able to retain ABS? Also what is the speedo feed too the TCCS used for?

5v volt what?

Digital out? Analog out? Usually a 5v out means analog and that is not compatible with the output of the Speedo as that is a digital signal.

i've seen what you're talking about. the F/S thread requested that it not be duplicated, iirc.

anyway: didnt it look something like this, only made from CF?

Im not sure what type of signal it is, it dosent state it in the instructions, but here is the link to it http://autometer.com/download_instruction/1029A.pdf. Figgie, you still havent given me an answer:biglaugh: What is the feed to the TCCS used for? And will i be able to retain ABS when i do this?

O thats the one i saw a while back.... and i dont know what you are hinting at but i DO NOT replicate other peoples work, i never once stated i was going to in the first place. I also stated that mine is going to be fiberglass wrapped in leather... kind of like a speaker box type of deal. Not to be rude but dont even go there, i do my own work for a reason!

its hard to do as if the holes arnt exactly perfect all the gauges wont fit.

Hey that looks awesome! i like how you integrated it into the plastic cover piece.

thanks, actually the outer plastic face will be cut out as it wont allow the gauges to sit inside it. the rims of the tach and speedo interfere. the outer ring will stay though. the clear clrystalite the gauges are mounted in and the trim piece will be sanded to rough them up and then painted with flat black krylon fusion piant then low gloss black engine paint to give the matte black finish i want. goal is for it to look as stock as possible. ill also have a hood on the middle of the dash that will have my boost, egt and wideband a/f gauge in it. still need to buy the voltage gauge and the fuel level gauge and sender before ican complete the cluster. i have everything else to do it. just havent gotten the mounting plate quite riht ye. they wont all fit if the holes arnt exactly perfect. lol. since i was so tired when i made the first one they are a lil off. need to learn to stop pushing cause im excited and just take a damn break to rest. lol. good thing that crystalite is only like $2.50 a sheet the size i need. lol

Hang on let me get this straight..... Someone did a custom gauge panel and has asked that no one else make one??

GTFO better call evey race team in the world and tell em he doesn't want them to make panels....

Let me guess NO ONE ever did one before him and he's all original :nono:

Fuck this shit cracks me up it's the DDP copyright BS yet again, never mind Toyota did it way back in 87 on their race cars people still get bent out of shape when someone reproduces it thinking it's stomping on people that COPIED Toyota.

TNR: If you want to do it go for it with the Gauge Panel you won't cop any shit here. (unless you botch it and it looks like ass) ;)

whoa whoa whoa. i was just naming an identifying characteristic of the other thread, i wasn't indicating that you'd be copying it. it was just suggested in the thread that someone who worked with CF to buy it and duplicate it, then do a group buy, i wasn't insinuating that you're copying him (if that were the case the world wouldn't get anywhere:))

There are only so many ways to lay out gauges that make sense.....

You wouldn't be copying anything if they end up in the same places, fuck I'm over Wankers here thinking they own the copyright to things that THEY copied in the first place.

I design and manufacture parts and if someone poaches design elements I take it as a compliment that what I came up with is good enough for someone else to want to use.

What I do though is refuse requests for the Cad files, if they want to copy my stuff fine but they'll need to work for it I'm not handing it to them.

There are very few original ideas/concepts.

My point exactly, all i was saying about the F/S ad is that the seller requested it not be bought and specifically duplicated, not that the seller didn't want anyone else to make something that looked like it.

TNR: Sorry never used a stock ECU in my car so NFI ;)

I would imagine in the J Spec cars it's for the 180kph SpeedCut not sure why a USD would have it or if it's actually used (maybe ABS/TEMS? but I thought each had it's own controller)
