Guess it all depends where you're standing whem you hear it
(never mind that they're FUGLY)
Tests are done xx meters behind and xx to the side on the diagonal.
If you're walking along and a car comes towards you you can't hear it till it passes (doppler effect) and it's loudest when you're in line with the tailpipe facing you.
One thing you need to remember our tests are done at around 4500, no matter what you do a 7M at full noise is going to freak out the EPA test gear.
(I gor nailed in my old HQ with a 253 in it due to the above scenario, took it to be tested it passed easily)
