Hey guys. i need some help!
im writing an paper on sub cultures and my teacher suggested i write about "car clubs" or MK3 enthusiasts like us. the basis is to point out values or any type of messages that we send out by owning a supra and any kind of ideology we stick by. if anyone has suggestions or advice it would be greatly appreciated. im intending to present this paper to an audience and i would be including pictures and basic history. but what i need help with is just the values or messages we have for owning supras if that makes sense. THANKS!!

John

Well for starters the this forum is my second family. This has got to be the tightest nit group on the net and the best forum I've ever been on. I know that Mark III owners will break their backs to help one another, so many threads out there of people going out of their way for free to help a fellow member. I've done it countless times. Hell I still work on and fix the 89 I sold. Some say it is just a car (Ian, ROFL) but to me its something more than just a car, every supra has its own personality and every owner knows how to keep them on the road and going (well for the most part).

What I've noticed on this forum is that people don't fallow advice blindly....change your oil every 3000 mile myths etc....here people aren't just happy with what's recomended, they want to know "why" it works and "how" it works!

The supra comunity has got too be one of the most educated and helpfull comunity I know! People go out of their way too help others! This forum has set up paypal accounts too donate money too help with others personal lives (doward, wetboosteddreams...iirc). We don't just care for our own cars but we take some sort of responsibility for everyone elses such as pointing out trouble areas in someones build...or loaning tools that someone doesn't have! People over seas have a hard time getting parts so I know a few members that will have parts shipped too a US member so they can then ship it oversea....that's fuckin team work!

The Philly supras are a bunch of cool people of all different race, color and it makes no difference...we all seem too agree on what a clean car looks like and all take pride/respect in our cars even if it may not be the best!

Projects are always more fun when your doing it on something you love. This is definitely a forum that will help you with it! What class is this for? More specifically what are you trying to cover, ie why we chose supras, how we work as a commiunity, the diversity of our backgrounds exc?

If your looking to interview, set up a questionaire, and then ask people to participate here. Participants can give you an email to send it too, so we can complete it at our convienence, and send it back to you.

Supramania keeps me off the streets, and off drugs.
For real, though. It's nice to have a place to share a common interest like the Supra. As for what kind of message we send out to others? If I had to sum it up- I love Supras because they are rare, they are old school, they can keep up, and they still have classic, desirable lines.

Lewis has a good idea here. I'm sure a lot of us could spout off all kinds of info for you, but creating an interview or questionnaire could help you focus your fact finding efforts, get more people to participate and give you the info you need to write a good paper.

I know i would be more likely to participate if it were in that format.

well pretty much its an english paper about sub cultures. Now as a sub culture im using MK3 enthusiasts. Now the messages im looking for are broad values like the family one works. pretty much just values and messages that we as mk3 enthusiasts share. i have to do a little bit more research to give you guys a better answer

.... or the black colon!

"Its just a car" Says that man thats probably spent enough on a supra to buy a ferrari, lambo or anything else out there.

People who like Supras generally share some or all of the following traits:
- We like import cars in general, Toyota specifically, and the Supra, of course.
- We like sports cars.
- We like our luxury features... like the auto climate control that's been in every Supra since 1982, while the 2001 Camaro SS STILL doesn't have one.
- We like classic styling. Face it, the Supra doesn't look like anything made today. Hell, it doesn't even look like anything made in the last decade.
- We don't like to spend a lot of money. We like to get good value for what we do spend.
- We're not uncomfortable turning a wrench. Most of us will have a decent sized tool collection in the trunk.
- The fact that we have built a community around our car shows that we are social, and the vast majority of us enjoy being a part of that community.

There are reasons behind each of these, but I'm not going to do *all* your homework for you! :)

Up in this crazy land called Canada (Kah-Nah-Duh), we like Supra's so much, we import RHD ones from Japan because we're so MAD TYTE JDM YO. And because we can...

Also, I've got to add that between this forum and two others that I won't mention, this has got to be the best one when you're looking for help and honest answers. Not dumb remarks, false information or being made fun of when you ask a question.
