What Grim is referring to is the age of the rubber...even though the dampner may have been on your car for 39K miles, if it is an original one from years ago it is very possible the rubber is hard/dry rotted regardless of the mileage on your engine. You will have a hard time seeing it as well. He was just passing along info based on his experience.

He meant no insult to your experience and neither did I. It is usually price shock to those that go to the dealer to buy a stock dampner. The ATI is cheaper, much higher quality, and better balanced...added bonus: it's 5 lbs lighter...an excellent investment IMO, especially if you have a lot of $$$ invested in the motor.

BTW - I'm 49...been building/wrenching on motors since I was 16...2 kids...my son is graduating from college this semester ;)

And your car is beautiful :)

Thank you. I was very tired last night from the last week of working in 100 to 106 deg. heat every day. I'm away from home running an ammunition test for DHS at Ft. Benning. I can see now how I could have been mistaken for a youngster with big dreams. And you guys are right about the age and rubber hardening over the years. I don't mind spending money on my cars but I try to shop with restraint. My stock dampener looked good but it very well may be down on performing its task. I'll probably go with an ATI this winter just for peace of mind. I mod my car a little every winter as thats what gets me through these North East winters with my sanity.

One of the nicest conversions I've seen...really :)

Make sure the FAMs are getting the best ammo available...when I'm flying the plane in my day job, it's a comfort to know those guys can take out the "problem" with one shot. BTW - I'm in the USAFR as well...15 years active as an F-16 pilot...10 as a resverist ;)

I'm kinda partial to things that go "BOOM".

Wow! I'm impressed to say the least. I directed the pistol ammo testing in August of 05. We're still on that contract. Rifle ammo last August. We're doing 12 ga. right now. Very time consuming and sometimes tedious. We always ensure that the end users get the best products available. And the FAMS really need Tuned 1911's in .45 cal. Surgical shots with a Sig in DA mode are very difficult.

JDub was right on the money there, I'm not trying to pester you at all, or make any suggestions as to your wrench knowledge one way or another. I'd love to see you pick one of these up just because I think they are fantastic parts that everyone here should own. Unfortunately, they are well outside the budget of most of the members here.

My mistake GrimJack. When I read the Want your questions answered? click here, I went on the defense. Apparently I got the wrong impression. I will go with the ATI Damper soon and I appreciate the solid advice from you and jdub.

LOL - that's just my signature! It wasn't directed at you at all, it's added to all my posts... mostly because I'm one of the few people willing (and able) to deal with the basic questions over and over again without losing it on the newbs.
