Are 7m-gte clutches the same as GE?

no...

7m-ge uses a W58, its a 225mm flywheel push clutch
7m-gte uses a R154, its a 240mm flywheel pull type clutch

ive got a W58 behind my 7mgte, using a 225mm flywheel and it bolts up fine... (it was converted to manual before i got it, i wish they would have used the R154)

Good stuff. Well Grim I will be putting up more parts tonight for sale. I am trying to re-save my money to get another Supra. These others cars I seem to own only point back to my Supra I miss. So we shall see what is in store for the summer.

the w58 isn't bad, it has shorter gearing and shifts much smoother..

I have a 7MGTE with a W58, love the shorter gearing, but hate the fact that it'll only handle about 400hp before going kablooey..

Actually gears 2 and 3 on the R154 are shorter than the W58, only 1 and 5 are taller, and only by a very small margin. Gear 4 is obviously the exact same between the two.

If you actually look at percentage difference between gear shifts on the 2 transmissions, you'll also find that they are VERY similar. The main difference between the 2 cars is the differential gearing.

You'll find that the R154 has closer ratios between gears on 3 of the gear changes, compared to the W58, which is only closer on the 1-2 shift by 3%. The 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 shifts on the R154 are closer percentage wise than they are on the W58. Of course with the 4.3 in the N/A, everything feels a lot closer, but throw that behind an R154 and you'd find the same thing.

ohh, thanks for the info, Jeff..

I was sorta dreading an R154 swap because I thought the gearing was so different and it'd affect my acceleration. I was planning a differential swap to maybe a 3.91 so I could have some of the benefits of the 4.30 and some of the 3.73, but now I know..:naughty:
