Im gonna get one in the future. Its my neighbors 88 FC.

He has owned it since 1990 and he drives it pretty often. I think he only drives it to his weekend house(which is the one down the street from me). I talked to him about it a few days ago and I learned some good stuff. Its on its original engine and its been maticuliously maintianed. Mazda parts only from a rotary shop in a nearby town. He diddnt drive it for a week because thats how long it took to get an original mazda alternator from Japan. Its a 5spd of course and its NA. Dont give me shit about that because to me its not how fast it is, its how it looks. I like handling better anywho. Ill swap the turbo engine in when the NA decides to blow someday =P

Aside form all that. I dont have a price cause its not for sale just yet... Buttttttt do any of you have experience with the 2nd Gen RX-7?

There's only like 3 or 4 (IIRC) moving parts in a 13B, the 2 or 3 rotors and the output shaft. The rotors rotate around the housing and the apex seals create seals for each step an internal combustion engine goes through. So if you seals are FUBAR then you'll have poor seals, poor pressure and poor combustion. First thing you should do if you buy one is replace those bad boys and if nothing looks incrediby jacked up you should be good to go. Doesn't matter if the car was maintained perfectly or not, they WILL wear down no matter what over time.

I want an FD myself :), haha

I have an 86 FC and I agree with the previous posts for the most part. I wouldn't reccommend changing the apex seal right away however, it is not an easy job or one for a rotary beginner. When the seals do go bad the car will smoke some, be down on power and finally get hard to start because the compression is so low. My friend had a Mazda station wagon with a rotary that was so worn out that it wouldn't start unless you pulled it with another car! Once it was running it ran OK, but it needed a rebuild. Very seldom do RX-7s "blow up", they just wear out. When it does wear out, remember that a Ford 351W with aluminum heads weighs the same as a turbo rotary motor and probably costs less to install too.Here's a link to everything you ever wanted to know about RX-7 V8 swaps.

Enjoy!

actually nobody in america owns an "fc" or "fd"

they are rx-7s here...anywho...go for it..don't listen to people who naysay the rotorary motor and diss on apex seals...the turbo cars naturally had those go out becuase of boost..just like our headgasket they are the weakest link..however with no boost those motors can run forever with proper maintanence just like all other cars..

get it..drive it..love it..they handle great

13b = 2 rotors

Renesis = 2 rotors
3 rotor motors are rare in the US...so rare..you'll most likely never see a car with one..let alone actually the see the motor.

2 of my best friends have them. One has a 13B w/ a XSPower Kit on it, and my other has a 13B-RE from a Cosmo w/ a GT35/40R and a nice standalone. They are great cars.... the NA's would be good for autocross... and swaps. But you need to swap more then just the motor for some of them... since they do have some weak components. I'd recommend a 13B-RE or a 20b if you got money :).

Then nobody in America owns an MA70 or AE86. Or a DC2 or EG6. Or Z31 or S13. There were 3 generations of RX-7 how else are people supposed to diffentiate between them other than the Chassis code?!?

the same way we differentiate between an 87 SUPRA and a 91 SUPRA...by the year....

Then why does my VIN tag say it's an FC?

Oh..so now my car is an ma61-yadda yadda...not a supra?

If I say FD RX-7 then do you know exactly what I'm talking about? If I say AE86 do you know what I'm talking about? Probably, so who gives a crap about what they were called where as long as it conveys the point...it's not like the world is gonna end as a result of someone saying MA70

Awesome. Thanks guys!

And on production code things. Is ay supra. yeah. Unless im with Toyota people, its MA70

For an AE86 its a corolla

For an RX7 tho.. I say an FB, FC, or FD RX-7. Just because when I say RX-7 people automatically think FD. Same with supra... JZA80...

Hey Arron. Can you tell me some features the RX-7 has? I know that my neighbor took out the RX-7's electronic suspension because of the harsh ride. But what else? Neat tidbits. Isnt there a shift buzzer? lol
