Azreal has a key from an old supra that will start nearly any old toyota and many old(ish) cars and trucks... MkII's, some MkIII's, Fords... ect.

Luckily it won't work in my MkIII :D

As I imagine it, the old rounded over key is good at rummaging around the pins until the line up, as that they key takes a bit of "wriggling" to get it to work... and alot of 'feel'.

yep!

the old tumblers are so worn or get stuck that any toyota key works. A little bit of cleaning fixes that issue up nicely. If not.

New tumbler!

Once i start my car i can pull the key straight out of the ignition with it still in 'run' and the car stays running like the key is still there, its kind of annoying.

89 and before, supposedly there were about 6 different key patterns, so i've been told. fortunately no one in my local group has a key that will start my car and vice versa.

Utter BS.

There are certain cut combinations which are avoided to ensure the key doesn't get stuck in the lock though... but not that many and there are more key patterns than 6. If you want to ensure someone's not going to be getting in your car with their key, then get the lock rebuilt and have the wafers arraigned so they're aggressive, such as the patterns typically avoided. Granted, the lock won't last as long.

Hasn't all this been covered about 10,000 times on here? Why do we need a new thread about it anyway?

EDIT: Oh and before anyone says it, there is no Toyota Universal/Master key. There are certain cut combinations which rely on worn locks and averaged cuts based on the possible cuts (so you're likely to get in with one or the other if you the lock's worn enough or possibly with a little rake action), but there's no such thing as a universal.

I think my keyhole and key where replaced because it doesn't say toyota anywhere on it, just "Made in the USA" on a black rubber grip. but oddly enough it open the doors as well but not the hatch

No, just a replacement key and like many here your hatch lock is worn out and binding up.

my key from my crashed parts supra doesn't open my new supra. or the other way around. i think the lock cylinders have to be really worn. that is why it only works on older cars that have been unlocked about a million times.

edit: both my cars are the exact same year. square mounts grey plug.
