Please don't flame me for this, but...

I have a friend that works for Toyota. His GM was invited to a "Top Secret" press conference, and the GM has confirmed that it is regarding the 2008 Supra. Please don't kill me.
Everybody's "insider informative" has been saying a new Supra will be released.

Didn't you know?

I'm normally a big 'teh z0mg New Suprazzzzzz' thread buff...and explaining why it's NOT going to happen; But I'll make it plain and simple.

Toyota has put themselves where they want to be. Why, you ask?

TOYOTA - Economic, Clean, Affordable cars. Appeals to the typical Middle-American Family.

LEXUS - The Luxurous, higher end vehicles. Appeals to the folks with more money than they know what to do with.

SCION - Cheap & Affordable, "Stylish", Customizable, Economic. Appeals to the younger crowd, for sense of being able to make it 'custom' for a cheap price, yet still get away with the 'New Car' tag...all with a fairly reasonable price.

Who else do they have left to target? I think Mr. Toyoda would be proud today if he knew where Toyota sat today in the US Market.
That, and I *really* doubt the President of Toyota is worried about what a small handful of 'tuners' are wanting to see happen. Scions sell. Period.

As it's already been mentioned...*surprise*: If a "Supra"ish car DOES make it to production, it's likely to be badged as a sporty two door Lexus with absolutely zero comparable features other than 2 doors, 4 wheels and probably pretty fast.

Exactly.

I received an email the other day from a good friend of mine who works for Toyota Australia and TRD and you are absolutely correct.

This is an except from the email he sent me after i told him i am sick of hearing this shit and i asked him outright if he is confirming that there will be a new Supra:

"Pretty much, yes, that's what I'm confirming...they're trying to release it by the end of 2008 to compete with the new Honda NSX

And there's a new MR2 in the pipe line with a V6 engine 300+kws

MKV will be around the 380 - 450 kws depending on engine used, V8 or V10"

I take that with a grain of salt, as i am someone who usually thinks all this is just rumours and bullshit... However... This is a pretty good friend, who is pretty high up at Toyota Australia... So I'm a lil more hopeful than i usually am...

:)

Toyota is finally noticing that they ARE losing a good market share int he performance sector. Look at how serious they got with their new Tundra. With the new Z, skyline, RX, they have to have SOME clue that they are losing this very profitable market (how many 350Z's do you see daily?).

They're doing themselves a disservice by NOT making a Supra replacement, as they have nothing to compete at the moment...

did I deny that that's what the LF-S is?

your reading comprehension needs some work.

they need to make a CHEAP LF-A to compete with the 350Z! Jezz people, it's the same reason the F-bodies and the Supra died...THEY GOT TOO EXPENSIVE!

You expect Toyota to tone down a $100k+ supercar to compete with a $30k Z?

Funny. :stickpoke

Toyota should throw together a 2AZ-GE-powered RWD small sports-ish car, like a RWD Scion tC with some balls and/or excitement to the engine. I think it would sell, but in reality, Toyota is NOT hurting.

No matter how much you think Nissan is kicking Toyotas ass by having a 350Z and Toyota having nothing, the fact of the matter is, Toyota is NOT hurting.

They are doing exactly what they need to be doing to gain customers and numbers. What Toyota needs to focus on is improving the quality of their vehicles to the standards of say 10 years ago. They've slipped, and most of the slippage has occurred on North American-produced models.

wow.... you guys are funny...

NISSAN JUST DID IT...

The whole argument Supra this Supra that...

to people who know cars the Skyline is back, no it is not badged Skyline... but... welll Nissan kept it in the Nissan family, the GT-R... you say GT-R, people say oh the new skyline?... yet it isn't a skyline in terms of Nissans badging..

the new "Supra" will be known as a supra to all fans, but will have a different badge....

everyone is basically agreeing, another supra is coming out... now some are right saying it wont be called a supra, but you are all saying it is supra like, which in reality, coloring just a tad out of the lines... it is the Supra....

Wow... man I have no clue what I just typed, weed ftl.

Toyota is losing market share? I think GM and Ford would be suprsised to hear that.

Don't get me wrong. I am pissed that BWM sells our car in a reasonable price range, the 335i, with a 3.0 I-6 TT model, and not Toyota. Fuckers.

The G35 was known everywhere esle besides here as the Skyline.

The skyline never left production. it was simply grafted in to the NA market. The supra is gone, left production. when i see some new tooling from toyota, new press releases on an actual date not "well my insider said he was cleaning the bathroom at toyota headquarters and when the ceo came in he took a giant shit and said !i need to make a new supra!" then ill be convinced when it comes to market.

you guy make it seem like its really easy to bring new large products to a market, name alone cannot carry a product.
