Antenna Wire Location...

So it looks like the PO replaced the antenna and did not plug it into anything, I fished around in the hole under the antenna and couldn't find the connector... Am I in the wrong spot? I did a search and couldn't find any posts about it.

What am I missing?

Thx!

Did not know there was 2, was looking for the connector in the back PS fender behind the fuel door. Is the other antenna in the back window?

I did find the connector, it had been stuffed up into the fender. A more thorough search would have saved me a post :)

Reception still sucks... I'll have to check @ the dash and see if it is unplugged.

Thx!

Did the PO use the stock location? I'm assuming so. You should be able to find it in there though. If I remember right, you can find it under the door sill plate on the passenger side. Have someone move it a little while you fish around again.

I'll need to check my radio wiring. My reception is not the greatest, and I already found one fault with the aftermarket head unit... The rear speaker leads are going to the front, and the fronts to the rear.

How does the rear window antenna connect to the factory radio? Does Toyota run a second antenna wire from the window yo the head unit, or is there a junction somewhere so there's only one wire going to the HU?

Toyota HUs have two antenna inputs and internal "diversity" logic to select the best one at any given time. If your aftermarket HU does not support diversity then just use the larger cable which connects to the motorized whip.

edit: JJ beat me to it.

I have a feeling I'm using the window antenna for some reason. I recall having to put a different plug on the end of the cable to get it to plug into the head unit. The one that was there was too small..

If you used an adapter, you're using the antenna in the glass. It's ok, but the mast antenna is better most of the time.

I envy those of you with radio worth listening to. Haven't had that in nearly 5 years now since I moved to Wyoming. :nono:

Thanks Jon. You're good at finding stuff. I remember when you came up with that ready-made bango bolt with 1/8 npt after I'd already drilled and tapped one. I hate it when that happens ;)

Sometimes I get lucky. In this case going from an antenna jack to RCA seems to be unobtainium. RCAs aren't impedance matched so no real surprise I guess.
