Recently I had a long discussion with a well know performance mechanic about the engine oil I am using.
7MGTE with around 4,000 km following a reconditioned bottom end.
Running standard boost through a high flow CT26.
I am using 5w30 synthetic oil & have been since around 2k.
When I told the guy he nearly had a heart attack:biglaugh:
He said that I should be using a 15w50 oil as having a turbo puts high stress on the oil & that under stress the thin oil will be pushed away from the parts that it is trying to protect.
I asked him if he knew that liquids are hard to compress & that using a 50 weight oil would just reduce my oil flow at higher revs when most protection is needed.
Told him that oil flow gives the engine protection not high pressure.
Now have I got it totally wrong?
