Yes, the console with the cupholders is only about 1 1/2" deep as opposed to the 6-8" depth on the pre 89's. This is because the air bag control module is located under there in later years. To me a pre 89 console with cupholders would be a nice combination if you don't have the airbag. It would allow the drink to fall through the holder a bit further.

Silly guys........only the cars without TEMS have the condom dispenser. It is located where the TEMS buttons are on car with TEMS

I still left the button there, though. :biglaugh:

I thought the TEMS buttons were in front of the change/condom holder?

I don't have a cup holder either so I used to use the ashtray/coin holder/condom dispenser(Rofl) too and now I have like 8 lb.s worth of coffee stains in my car at any given location. So now I ask for one of those recycled paper cup trays whenever I get a drink and tear out one of the sections. If you get it in there right, it just fits in the square tray AND it holds your cup pretty steady.
i am soooo going to do that.

In Canada, we didn't get the airbag until later, so all our '89 & '90 cars have the best of both worlds, deep and cupholder. :D

Pfft. I don't believe in Supras having cupholders. Wanna cupholder? Go get yourself a Cressida or a mom and pop minivan. I prefer to drive my car like I stole it, and my bottle of Vault fits just fine between my legs :)

Let me know how it works out...

Tanya, unfortunately for me and maybe some others, I can't "drive it like I stole it." This car is my DD and I doubt it has the ability to be driven like it was stolen...

And those hour long drives to class are terrible unless you've got the Joe...

Sheesh... the whole point of my previous post was that between your legs works pretty good unless you're trying to fit a gallon milk jug in there.

No, further back, the one with the popup lid, like I already explained.

Exactly.

Cupholders added: 1989 model.
Airbag added: 1990 (USA), 1992 (Canada).

That leaves 1 year where the USA had deeper console and cupholders, and 3 years for Canada.

I have a shadow grey center console on my 89, and it sucks cause it's super shallow..

Only reason I got it was cause it was cheap, and it came with the cup holder, had to hybrid-ize my 89 lid though to fit, that was fun.....

wa.
cup holders in this car do suck balls.

Its a GT car so when i spend like 4 hours driving its nice to have someplace to put the coffee thats keeping you awake at night.

the airbag computer in that console make that little compartment like 1'' deep and the cup holders are just too far back. But then again i'd rather have it there than infront where my ashtray/gauges are.

Around
several years ago, i went to a junkyard and found the cupholders in an '89. i quickly pulled it, paid $3.00 for it, and put it in my car. (i have an '86.5)

aaaand i've never used it. haha. i just buy bottles of water anyway. so there's really no need for me to have it, and i'll probably take it out when the car is road ready, as it just gets in my way...
