The Koyo may or may not touch the core support on it's outer edges on the sides. If it does, it needs to be insulated or it will ground out leading to erosion of the radiator. Also, the isolator mounts on the bottom need to be cut down.

^^ thanks. Lastly does the factory toyota cap fit on the radiator. I cannot really tell if my toyota cap on my 92 would fit on it. Also I think I am going to run the higher pressure cap on my car just for the sole reason that if for some reason the car would run hot it will keep the coolant a fluid vs a gas up to a higher temperature, obviously this does come at the cost of more potential for leakage but I do think it is a worthwhile trade off. I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on this radiator.

Yes, the factory cap does fit on this radiator. I still warn AGAINST using that 19 lbs Mishimoto cap that comes with the radiator. Granted, the higher pressure would raise your boiling temperature; but you're also putting undue stress on the rest of the cooling system. If there's a weak spot anywhere in your cooling system (hoses, heater core, gaskets, etc); you'll soon find it in the form of a coolant leak. Not worth the risk if you ask me.

Another great selling point for the Mishimoto, is their limited lifetime warranty. If you're not familiar with their warranty, you should check it out. They'll replace your radiator for any defects including auto accidents!

"Accident Protection
Mishimoto, under its no questions asked warranty policy, will provide a warranty for all claims including vehicles involved in accidents. Warranty claims must include pictures of the accident and an official police report, and must be within three months of the accident. "

Other than the higher pressure cap, I highly recommend the Mishimoto radiator. It's a VERY good aluminum radiator, at a VERY affordable price!

i installed a pwr rad a few weeks ago and had a similar issue w/ the fan shroud, but i figure out how to fix it, you basically take a dremel and drill out some of the plastic so that the aluminum piece can fit into the plastic tab (see red area in pic) and then the shroud fits nice and easy,

Pros-
-Good quality, very solid piece
-Cools good (haven't given it the test of AZ summer yet)
-Fits pretty well
-Works with stock fan/shroud
-Large
-Affordable
-Uses stock pre-89 cap

Cons-
-No lower shroud mounts
-No supplied block off for the 1jz temp sensor
-Stock electric fan lower mount non existent
-Mounts have to be shaved (Typical of any aluminum radiator)

Major issues were the lack of shroud mounts on the bottom and lack of lower electric fan mount, you have to fab up a bracket yourself. Also, you have to go out and buy a plug for the temp sensor (i used an old sensor i had laying around) which is 16mmx1.5
Biggest install pain was probably shaving the lower mounts without power tools, things are HARD!

If your car is running hot, you have to take care of it some other way... like getting a thicker radiator.

Like deabionni said, your higher boiling point is no good without any coolant in the system.

deabionni beat me to the pics of the Mishimoto. Oh well:

It barely touches the hood insulation. You can't even see an imprint, and I didn't shave the mounts:

I regret not doing more about the gaps between the shroud and the radiator, but I'll save that task for another day.

Dave did you ever end up buying a rad?
Also, anyone else with other radiator testimonials?

Aside from IJ, does anyone have input on the PWR radiator?

I love my pwr. I didn't have any of the problems with the fan shroud that were mentioned earlier but I bought mine used. It holds alot of fluid and looks great.

Thought the pwr needed a little picture representation.

Tapatalk iphone app only let's you upload one pic per post so I'll just show the rows(I can see my phone through the xerex reflection lol). As you can see it has a 2 row core with 2 very long rows, considering it has a thicker core than the 3 row koyo.

How much fluid does it take to fill your cooling system?

How close do the stock fan blades sit to the radiator?

Yep I did purchase a radiator and I went with the Mishimoto. I have it all installed and it fits just like the others mentioned, however if you have a 91/92 radiator the factory cap does not fit. I am not sure when they changed cap size but the early models and NA's have a larger cap than the 91/92's turbos. Seems like the aftermarket stuff all uses the larger cap.

Not very much room but I've never had a problem. I can fit my hand in, palm against the radiator.

I'm not sure the exact amount but it's close to double from stock.

Can you confirm that the factory cap size changed from year to year?

Sam

yes, I can confirm that the older turbos and N/A's had the larger cap size and the later model turbos have a smaller cap size. As for the exact year of the change I would guess 89 but it may not be until 91/92 that it was changed. I ordered a cap for an 88 turbo since my 92 cap did not fit. My 92 cap was also purchased from toyota and they confirmed that there were two different caps.

Looking at the pictures of other peoples stock radiators in this thread it looks like they had the copper/brass construction radiator. Mine was a plastic endtank copper or aluminum core (still factory toyota stuff) , I think its safe to say if you have the plastic radiator stock in your car the factory cap will not work on these radiators. If you have the copper brass the stock cap should work.
