Hey everyone, well my HG went... not overheating, however I do have some milky oil... got to drain my oil right away so I dont get the dreaded rod knock.. I have a question however.. has anyone ever tried to use the Ajusa HG? It actually looks pretty decent.. just wondering..

I used a couple of 'em (different cars). They work as good as stock. Much less expensive than the stock headset. I believe I actually picked up 2 sets off of Ebay for ~$35 shipped. Ain't ever seen that deal again tho...

The ajusa hg is metal... its actually much better than the composit stock hg... For lower hp applications, I'd use it... Its friggin NICE compared to the crappy wax coated ones that come in other kits... I actually have one hanging in my garage, I was gunna use or sell, but it got bent... Paper doesnt bend like this...

Ajusa would be a fine hg for you then... I would still recommend swappiong in some ARP head bolts though and make sure you torque them to around 75ftlbs...

Thanks for the advice.. But I allready have the ARP's :biglaugh: Do you think its necessary to do a copper spray on this gasket? also I cant afford to machine my head and block now, so I am hoping Ajusa will be as forgiving as the OEM gasket

As for the copper spray: :nono: Dont do it... There is a thread, search it out, I think Jdub posted it... There is alot of info on the copper spray...

To make a long story short, I allready have a head from a turbo motor that has been machined already... but the head seen a lil bit of moisture.. I think the head itself would be ok.. but the cams and stuff are pretty rusty... I wonder if I could just swap over all the NA's cams, and valve shims to the turbo head and drop that on?

I wouldnt... I'd just take the existing head and clean it up... I wouldnt trust the rust and stuff... You should be able to get your head machined for less than $100...

Yep....swapping is about the same amount of work than having the head taken care of by a machine shop. I'd use the same valve stem seals from the headkit and have the shop do everything, just to be on the safe side. I wouldn't trust another head, unless they've done everything to it.

Sooo.... damn, that I didn't buy ARP's I guess. I saved extra 50 bucks (would've get used ones fram a friend :)) and reused my stock bolts on the Ajusa and torqued them to around 71ftlbs. Actually should be okay? :D

Stock head bolts are torque to yield which means the recomended torque value for the bolts brings the material of the bolts to its "yield strength" limit. NEVER re-use torque to yield bolts, they have been "stretched".

Well I will be pulling the rest of my head tommorow, I will inspect the block and head, check for warpage. scrape it all clean, clean the pistons, and then make the decision on machining the head or not.. I am hoping since it was a NA to start, that the old HG didnt imprint the head.. I am running low on funds to get this baby on the road.. I just need to be able to drive her soon, it is my DD

Bones, you have several veteran supra owners trying to advice you on what needs to be done... Being frugal is one thing, but if you CAN afford to do it right, then do it right... If not, we'll be having this conversation again but with regretful results... Trust us, we know what we're talking about...

At the very least have it checked. Most shops will deck the head for $50-100. It's way cheaper than replacing a motor.
