I was recently kicked out. I was working for my parents previously, so I am now in need of work. My girlfriend and I have been thoroughly searching for jobs for four or five months now. Finally, my girlfriend was able to find a job here at Applebees. Shucks called me and had me come to be interviewed, but it doesn't look like they are going to call me back. I had already turned in an application to Applebees, and I learned that they were looking for a host. I called and they told me I needed to be 18. I asked them why and they said that it is just their policy. They wouldn't even consider hiring me as a dishwasher. I'm 17, not living at home, paying my own bills, buying my own food, working on my own cars, trying to save enough for college, yet I cant get a job there. I'm so fucking tired of hearing that a company isn't hiring, or that they just hired three people last week. I finally find a very likely place of employment, and they give me some bullshit reason why they aren't going to hire a 17 year old.

IIRC, if a restaraunt serves alcohol, you MUST be 18 to work, unless you are a dishwasher or busser, which they might not have positions for.

Yup job market is a bitch. I have been unemployed for ... not sure... too long. It is not easy finding a job. Shit it will be a year next month. Damnit.

I don't believe that is true. You must be 21 to handle alcohol, but you can work in a restaurant that serves it at 16. You just can't be the one that serves it until 21.

Yeah man I just 18 and its still hard to find a job. All the places I go to say they have just hired like 3 people or 5 people or whatever. I think i am just going to have to try to find work with my uncles friend. We shall see how that goes. I may not be as responsible as you but I hear ya. I work on my own Supra too but most of the time I never have time to because I wake up too late. I go to school at 5:30AM I hate it I love to sleep LOL. Oh well. Thats my problem. Keep hanging in there maybe you should try Food Markets. If not try I dunno a fast food or something. Tell the manager your situation. They might just give you a shot.

In FL, at least, if a restaurant serves alcohol, you must be at least 18 to serve it, 21 to work the bar. The job market sucks balls right now - I've been searching for a job since the middle of January when I got laid off, and have only had 2 interviews out of the 100 or so applications/resumes I've sent out. Just keep trying, or if all else fails, go to McDonald's until you find somewhere else :-\

Thanks for the advice. I guess i'll have to start looking at a thirty minute commute for a minimum wage job... Fun. It is just really annoying that applebees discriminates with no legal reasoning. I finally find a job, and I can't even give it my best shot.

Let's see. Mystery shopping is a scam. I had a friend who tried it. And last time I checked I lived in Oak Harbor. There are may be jobs in Burlington, nearly an hour from where I am living, and you need to be 18 to be a server.

yea most construction jobs are 10/12 an hour, untaxed. landscaping, framing, insulation, etc. when i was 17 i was making like 400 a week landscaping, untaxed!

also, is your only car a supra? hows your driving record? delivery jobs man. fuck hosting and serving if all you gotta do is drive around all day for tips. sandwich joints, pizza shops, etc.

craiglist.org does wonders- Got laid off on St. Patty Day and found a couple jobs that paid decent

check it out!

and you can "provide" alcohol under the age of 18, you just cant serve them. I had a catering job and messed with beers, wine bottles at weddings all the time.

I have two cars, both supras. One 3/4s of the way through a 1jz swap, and the beater that I am driving around. I have a clean record too. You have to be 18 to deliver in WA. Where would I find a construction job?
