I've never been the most sympathetic to people complaining about a lack of jobs. It's usually more a case of setting your sights higher than what you're worth in a current economy. I realize there are exceptions to every rule and every locale is different, but there's never been a time in my life where it took me more than two weeks to find a job.

Ditto any time I've ever been out of work was my choice, I've done some of the most crap jobs you could imagine and as long as the paycheck was there at the end of the week I didn't care.

I am doing any small job I can get. I have a job cleaning an office building, but that isn't enough to cover everything. So don't think my standards are too high. I just renewed my fast food applications and I am on CL every day looking for jobs. I call about any available job on there. I'll take anything.

check the yellow pages or google 'landscaping' or 'construction' and your city/state and it should give you some companies and numbers. its fucking HARD work and at the end of the day you wont want to do shit, but it pays really, really well.

I'll have to look into that.

Let's see. Mystery shopping is a scam. I had a friend who tried it. And last time I checked I lived in Oak Harbor. There are may be jobs in Burlington, nearly an hour from where I am living, and you need to be 18 to be a server.

I just called that Red Robin, they said they'll hire someone under 18 to host or bus tables.

I gave them a good word about you!

Thanks! I just don't think I should drive my uninsured unreliable vehicle 50 minutes to work back and forth every day. Thanks again though.

You shouldn't drive an uninsured vehicle anywhere, anytime because it is illegal. If you misspoke and you mean that you simply have liability only insurance, then that's fine.

Zach was dead on, btw. "No job is below you if you don't have a job..."

Whenever I've been out of a job temporarily I've always hit up on Temp Services/ Day Labor place that gets you jobs. Most of it was crap work, and the pay was shitty... but it was work to hold me over. I've once worked at a construction site that all I did was scoop up gravel off the street with a flat head shovel and toss it back into the excavated part of the street. This was in the mid 90's and it paid $10/hr. It was 10-12hrs a day, in the hot ass sun, and was one hell of a work out. My shoulders would burn by mid day to the end. I've watered grass for an apartment complex that was under new construction until they plumbed the automated sprinkler system for $6.50/hr. I've done sheetrock for new home construction. Landscaped, cement work, roofing, framing, laid down sod, cleaned&polished floors, cleaned office buildings, and the list goes on.

The good thing about doing these kind of jobs is that is show your future employer that you just didn't sit on your ass for nearly a year doing nothing but eating cereal, playing video games, and surfing the net. They'll at least know that you were staying busy with employment. Jobs don't like to see any down time in between jobs. They see it as lazyness.

Might I add some experience with temp agencies:

These places are great.
I worked with one for about a year and half while looking for engineering positions in eastern NC. While you're not considered an employee with the actual company you're doing work for, this gives you the opportunity to earn experience.

The only draw backs are: You can be let go at any time, there are no benefits such as health/dental 401K, and your pay is capped.

I'd hit up any "Man power" temp agencies, and see what kind of jobs you can try to get your foot into while you learn technical skills.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ werd, I've been laid off for the past year now. I can't find a decent job where I live, recession is kicking real bad here in socal. Even local parts stores are not hiring.. I was 17 when I worked my first job, I was a clean up boy for an Inn and then promoted to clerk when I turned 18.. and then laid off because of the falling economy. fml

haha Suprapowaz knows what it is to work! but hes right on the money man.. i saw several landscaping crews out today in cleveland, where the city was dieing long before the crazy recession hit. as long as there are corporate pigs and politicians where you live, there will always be people who have the money not to trim their bushes.

Temp jobs are a great thing dude. Get in at one and you get to work at several different places. Nice thing about that is if the people at those places like the work you do, you might get called back from that place and get hired as a full on employee.

Legally your parents can't kick you out!!! You are underage and not emansipated (sp). I don't know if you know that or not but I personally press charges against my parents if they want to play dirty like that!
