so i ordered this clutch, and ive looked info up on it on this site and some people say taht itll destroy your tranny. but i also read that bypassing the nuetral safety switch helps save the thrust washer... so wats the verdict? will i wreck my tranny? and is there a way to keep it alive. im not going to drop the clutch.. i just want to make sure that if i drive it it good, that itll work as my DD and work on the drag strip by slipping it off the line, not dropping it. thx guys. and my tranny has... 120k miles on it.

Bypassing the NSS wont help the fact that its unsprung. Although i havent *personally* used an unsprung, i had the rps 3200 maxx with springs and the engagement was harsh and i broke a few trannys. I can only imagine the unsprung harshness. I cant say that you WILL break your tranny, btu i think a sprung disc would have helped tranny life. JMHO though :)

I've been running a fidanza flywheel/ACT unsprung 6 puck/ACT pressure plate for over 10000 miles and have not had a problem. The most part is getting used to it and learning how to make it engage smoothly.

My advice though, is not to do it, because it sucks in traffic really bad, even though I can bark 4th gear with it....lol

well im not afraid to drive it in traffic... and i dont drive like an idiot lol... sure as hell am not going to try and power shift the car haha. i dont reallly have a choice in the matter since i didnt find out it was unsprung till after it was ordered *oops* i have no experience with that kind of clutch in a supra.. so is it going to be better to leave from a stop at higher or lower rpm.. id think around 1500 would be best? too low and itll prolly chatter like mad and too high and then ill start putting stress... cuz ive heard its like either engaged, or not haha no inbetween.

I come from a land down under
There is an inbetween it's just a lot narrower than a sprung centre!

I slip mine just enough to get the wheels turning then take my foot off it and drive away, it takes some practice and will bitchslap you if you have an off day!

i've got the sprung one and i can say moving from the stock clutch it is hell trying to get used to...especially in traffic. I get looks all the time because I'm squeaking the wheels trying to engage it smoothly, but I'm a lot better than I used to be (stall, or lay some rubber). Most people think I'm trying to race them LOL.

that's what everyone else is saying...it's very hard not to shock the tranny with an unsprung clutch, and even then it takes some getting used to. It's all in how you drive it. You can toast the tranny with the stock clutch with enough hard launches, it's all in the driving style.

I ran this clutch a while back, and it plainly sux if you're going to drive it in traffic and such. I don't care how good or careful you say you are... You just can't make it smooth. You can't slip the clutch... You have to try like IJ said and get it going just enough and let it go and drive. You can go without killing your tranny if you're careful, but it will never be smooth.
The rear will be so jumpy when u try to slip it that it'll feel like you're ripping the driveshaft out. The more you try to slip it, the worst it gets. I think the wheels even jump off the ground with all that chatter. If you just ate and get in it, you may just loose your lunch. :3d_frown:
Having said that, it was the funnest clutch i had. I could kick the tail out form standstill by dropping the clutch at 2500rpms :naughty:
I had crankwalk after running this clutch on a brand new built engine with about 3k miles. When i opened it up, the thrust washers were on the bottom of the pan as expected, but the lip on the block that holds the washers up was also worn down so the block became useless. The pilot bearing was in pieces too in the hole.... As bad as the chattering was, it can't be good for the crank.
I rebuilt the bottom end again on a different block and clutch and been fine since.
Just my experience with it.

if i do decide to put this in, i believe i can get the first gear down pretty good... but am i going to be able to shift gears fast on the track? not powershifting... or will shifting fast cause too much shock..

i just got the 3200 pp and 6 puck sprung disc in the mail today actuallly! i cant wait to get that in. waitin on my flywheel and drivshaft though...... i dont car how well it drives it traffic, if i was worried about driving it in traffic that much then i dont think i would be trying to make it a power house. but i am out for a quick car. thats just me though..
