hey everyone for about two weeks my rebuild 86.5 7mge has been acting weird. And after some research i think i have pin pointed my problem to the ACIS system just want to ask some other owners what they think....

The problem begins right from 1st gear, first is that it has very little torque, now the real problem comes into play almost every time i get to 4 g's the engine almost feels like its just saying NO and wont rev past, forcing me to shift into 2nd and the same thing happens again, shift in to 3rd and it usually sails right past 4 and 5th is the same smoothness. Now its weird because sometimes in 1st if iam "geting it" and just kinda floor it, she will sail past 4000 easy same with second and the rest....

Iam just not certain whats the problem the Acis should be working the whole time right ? ive been looking here for some answers

But any thing helpful is greatly appreciated thanks guys and gals.

Usually when ASIC's is broken you get a surge at 4K.

alright well i found one test for it ..i read that u can simply watch and see if the valve opens or closes right? or is there more to that. ??

Usually that will do.

Checked the timing?

Really does sound like a timing problem. Have you had a light on it, and have you checked your cam gears to make sure they are lined up? A lot of people do not rotate the motor a couple of times after installing the timing belt, and then re-adjust if necessary. While you're doing all that check and make sure everything else is in time, #1 on TDC, crank pulley on the mark, cam gears on the marks, and rotor pointing at #1 wire.

i might be a good lead into my problem but if the timing was off wouldn't it me be off the whole time...what i mean is i was just diving it a few ago and it felt good the time but i still have no torque in low gears.

iam going to have to get a light on it, and recheck every thing anyway just to be sure. Thanks for the advice ill repost with results thanks alot.

It could be off still. If the cams are off it won't run right, since you didn't put a light on it from the start, your base timing is probably off, which it could run ok some of the time, and like shit others. I can't believe you have rebuilt the motor and havn't put a light on it. And you wonder why it isn't running right :3d_frown: No offence but I learned a long, long time ago, that is one of the first things you check after you get it up and running. The first thing is if you have anything pouring out the motor.

AYE..was a mistake i should have known better ...even though somone who helped put it together said check it with a light. i guess i was just excited to have it back and running should have payed for attention to detail ..but ill head over to the local shop and see if hes has a light i can borrow tomorrow ...thanks again ill let you know how it goes.

J/k, I'm glad it's something simple.

Now, now, don't get your panities all twisted :)

I'd check your cam gears, easy to pull the front cover and the distributor cap to check some simple things too.

In order for the ACIS to cause the symptoms you're describing, the valve would have to be locked closed. There is a spring inside the intake that physically locks it open if the ACIS system malfunctions.

I think you need to check the timing, but I'd also look into plugs and wires.

red cable = + side of battery
black cable = - side of battery

then you normally connect another "clamp" style thing onto the number one sprak plug wire to puck up the signal, then you point at the crank/timing cover plate where those little numbers are.
