A real problem: RPM REV LIMITER

Hi supra funs!
I am Claudio,and I have 90' supra turbo moded at about 450 rwhp.Stock
engine(ARP,MHG) as usual.
I have it with a manual trans (R-154).
I know that 86-88 models had a 6500 rpm rev limiter,and that the 86-88
engine's crank was a 6M crank.
Now,later 89-92 models had the new 7M crank with a lower rpm rev limiter
at 6250 rpms. Toyota said that 7M was a better balanced crank then it's
predecesor! But they still took the rev limiter down 250 rpm! It sounds
crazy :icon_evil

Now...How can we raise the rpm rev limiter :icon_bigg

The rods and generaly the 7M-GTE engine have very heavy metal parts, that
will not endure high boost pressures and high reving! OK,8000 rpm for that
engine is to much but 7000 rpms are fair for the engine I think.Don't forget
the early 86-88 models had 500 rpms less...

How can we raise the rev limiter? :1zhelp:
Without losing the TCCS ECU,cause we will lose some electronics posibilities
of the supra's equipment,if we'll use stand alone programmable ECUs.
Somewhere I heard about installing an EPROM chip on the stock TCCS ECU !?

Anyway, I think that the higher revving (7000 rpms are enough for stock engine) of the engine will give us more km/h for each gear and a later
shifting to the next gear. Not to mention more fun...!
For more revving than 7000 rpms, you will have to re-built the engine with
light forged rod & pistons, balance the crank for higer revving, lighter pulleys,
lighter driveshaft,lighter flywheel etc.

Guys,we need to find a solution on that problem!
You see,even the 2JZ-GTE has a low rev limiter at 6800 rpms.Only 300 revs
than 7M-GTE engine! And the 2JZ has a shorter stroke then 7M...:aigo: ,it
is built to rev higher (which is true) ,but only 300 rpms? Come on Toyota...:icon_evil

couple different ways, but the most effective is a stand alone engine management system (such as the aem ems above).

reg in canada can also reprogram the ecu for a higher rev limit.

look for an aftermarket ecu: Reg R., Techtom, Superchips (ooooolld school), Mine's.

Past that theres the stand alone route..

Map ecu gets rid of rev limiter raises what ever.

can you repeat!!! are you saying that the map-ecu gets completely RID of the rev-limiter. i find that hard to believe, i have a map-ecu. the map-ecu is just a piggyback, but that would be great if it got rid of the rev-limit. however, i know with the map-ecu, you can't touch timing.

Because the redline is not from the crankshaft....it is for the entire engine configuration, notably valvetrain. And early fuel cut was 6750, redline was 6500.

well mr standalone man, some of us aren't as fortunate... me being one of them. im looking for a way to raise the rev limit without going standalone. is there a way.

There were people in the past who tried changing a crystal in the ecu to increase the rev limit, but from what I remember hearing it was inconsistent, and on some ecu's it didn't have any effect.
I'm just saying it would be cool if it could go that high with the stock ecu, because with an upgraded turbo, ic, and exhaust, the 7m has no problem revving past 7k.

What type of standalone ECU do you have?
All the other electronic equipment (TEMS,Super monitor,Cruise control, etc,)
work fine with it?

I'm pretty sure the rev limiter is around 7k or 7200. 6500, 6250, and 6800 are redlines.

No chance bro...:aigo:
My supra is a 1990 model and constantly hits the rev limiter at about
6200-6300 rpms !!!!!!!

Well the map ecu 2 does not the first one....

sorry for not being so clear on that.
