I have an eMachine, 2.2ghz celery processor, 40gb hd... Used to only have a 256k memory stick thing, but I bought a 512k memory stick so it would help, but it didnt so much... I dunno what else to do... why is my comp so slow? I have dsl too...
Heh, not sure if that was meant sarcastically or not, but the biggest reason is your processor. Celeron's have a very small processor cache (not to be confused w/ RAM), which don't allow them to do as much as a processor of the same clock speed (i.e. 2.2Ghz) with more processor cache. For comparison, most Celerys have about a 256kb cache, versus most Pentiums' 1-2mb cache.
And 512mb RAM is no where near enough to help out with the load with Celery proc and WinXP.
My rule of thumb, when you get your next computer, be sure it has a large processor cache, an Intel Core Solo should be enough, and avoid the VIIV's. Ask the guy about processor cache size, and make sure its at least 1mb, if your budget allows, look for a Core Duo with 2mbs.
And please, for the love of God, don't get another eMachine!
