i can'y say i have but im from jersey.. i do know a local shop near me that is supposed to be good with supras. i ahven't gone yet but i only hear rumors. apparently they can get 1jzs or so ive been told.. as for this supra shop you speak of sounds like its in north jersey. good luck and i hope it works out well for you

Hey Guys,

I need some help please.

The mechanic said that my HKS VPC MAP Sensor is shot. Anyone here knows where I can get a replacement or if no one has one what will it take to revert to the old setup without the VPC and does anyone have an original MAP sensor or the replacement parts?

Is anyone familiar with an Error Code 11 ECU Positive and what may cause that? The mechanic is saying that the ECU and Harness needs to be replaced.

Guys, I'm tired of spending money on the car and the idle/shutoff problem is not going away. We've changed the TPS, adjusted the idle, changed the VPC MAP Sensor and no improvement since I took it in.

Now he's saying that the entire ECU and harness needs to be changed but I'm not even sure that would solve the problem.

Maybe I just don't know enough but when an HKS VPC is installed how does that affect the ECU does it still use the factory ECU and if so do you guys think the mechanic migh tbe correct? He quoted me 1500-1600 for the replacement parts alone but I was able to find them online for much cheaper so now I don't know if he's all that honest and his reliability is going out the door.

Does anyone know what may cause the car to start but not hold its idle and die minus the things that I said was replaced?

Sorry, don't know what it would take to revert back to using just the ECU. In the least you would need an AFM and air filter.
I hate the thought of wholesale replacing of the ECU and wiring harness when it may just be a loose connection. Check all your connectors at the ECU and VPC. Look for loose connectors, loose wires, frayed or broken wires. Re-seat all connectors if necessary. Do the same for all connectors in the engine bay.

BTW - welcome to MKIII's - it's a love/hate thing. You've got a very good starting point there. Lots of aftermarket mods already instlled. I've come to know that I will never be through working on it. If I'm not fixing some problem, I'm upgrading something, then I'm fixing the problems that show up after that :)

haha. I hear ya man. Thanks for the info. Now the mechanic said he went in and checked everything again and now gives me another problem and kind of ruled out the ECU and harness.

He said that he tested the A side and B side of the VPC harness and three of the wires have no connectivity on one of the sides can't remember if its A or B so now I'm looking for a HKS VPC harness which is discontinued so I hope the manufacturer has one sitting somewhere or someone somewhere has one they don't need anymore.

well, the love hate relationship continues...

If he tracked it down to the "harness", just get the soldering iron out and repair it. May take some time to track down the break, but it's probably right at one end of the harness at the connector or somewhere where it makes a hard sharp turn or rubs against something. Get the ohm meter out with needle point and poke through the insulation at intervals along the wire till you find it.

said that is he bypasses the solenoid or something like that he can cause a fire or other bigger problems blah blah blah.

Man I'm beginning to dislike this car. Haven't even gotten to drive it yet. I might start thinking about selling or parting not sure how much longer I can do this.

Im always just part shoppin and if seen the harnesses on ebay far and apart, u can check and u might get lucky...

As far as selling your car, once u get it running i gurantee u wont wanna sell it.Mine is only a n/a started off with a good platform not ass good as yours.But mine developed rodknock right after i got because of low oil.Year later i gotta new jdm and and now it think i gotta BHG!!!!

Even still i cant imagine selling it and getting something else.Now im saving up to go turbo.Its an uphill battle but when its all said and done its worth it.
