ya. why the hell would you pull a 3L engine out of a car to put a smaller engine in?

insanity I tell you...

There are many pros and cons, and you know it. The 1JZ is a viable replacement for a 7M but, IMO, it isn't for a 2JZ.
I think that the only way I would throw a 1JZ into a SC300 or JZA80 is if the existing engine was a GE that suffered catastrophic damage/failure [engine fire, rod through pan, etc] and I had access to a dirt cheap 1JZ clip in excellent condition.
The 1JZ is an awesome engine, Joe - I wholeheartedly agree with you on that, but you are so far up that engine's ass in praise that you don't address the few BAD things about it. With as much 2JZ parts compatibility and substitution you can do, there are some parts that are strictly 1JZ. What will the masses do when the 1JZ supply dries up and you cannot get those parts? 2JZ owners can walk into Toyota and order any part for their engines, where 1JZ guys will be left high and dry to find new means of parts improvisation.
Really, when you think about it, guys with worn out 1JZs will end up gaining back that 0.5L they threw away when they slip a brand new 2JZ block under their head anyways.
I think that this thread is really great, and I will be watching it closely to see just how well this goes. I was thinking about getting a SC300 and putting a 2JZ-GTE in with all of the parts that I had amassed for my MA70->2JZ project, but I may just get a SC300, tinker with it's GE and buy another A70 chassis and keep my GTE parts to continue my old project.

i no way did i mean to discount the 1j joe, i was refering to the fact that people will pull a perfectly good 2j and put a 1j in its place, when for the price they could slap on a tubo kit, get some piggybacks, some 440cc injectors and a 1uz afm.

I spoke to these people, and they're very difficult to deal with...
this is the email that I got from them when I inquired about picking it up:

nes12nes said:
no local pick up is not welcome I meet people with the engine and there
is a
minimum charge I am not meeting anyone with this engine for under $500.
and
the ad says no local pick ups so dont think you are going to bid and
pick it
up for $200. or something if you win it for $200. you will either pay
$500.
upon pick up or $556.28 shipped to you or you can buy one of the other
ones
on ebay for $750.-$900. its on you I am also local enough to honor a 90
day
warantee

$500 is still good, but I won't buy the engine from them... the attitude I got was pretty astonishing.
