Can I put a 9k tach in my 7mgte that works? If not what modification would I need?

I don't see any reason why it should not work. I have a 1jz that is rocking the 9k tack - direct fit.
Stock 7mgte tach works with 1jz - direct fit.
so this should work with a 7mgte car as well.

6 cylinder still outputs the same number of .... oh wtf is the word... 'putts' since I can't think of it - per revolution. Should be no problems at all just putting it in and going!

I'm thinking of finding a 9K myself, for my own setup ;)

I've heard with a 1jz and a 7m tach it will be a couple hundred rpms off. Does anyone know if it's the same with the 1g-gte tach?

A 7m Tach in 1jz powered car is approximately 200 rpms off....not that big of a deal

I come from a land down under
If you run a stock tach and a standalone at the same time you will notice the stock tach is inaccurate by around about 200rpm.

I would trust what the standalone was telling me over the stock tach as stock is dampened quite a lot so a little sluggish.

Wait wait wait - I just saw a pic of the 1G-GTE tach - why is it showing redline @ like 6500rpm, while the 1JZ shows redline @ 7k?

Probably because the 1G has a 6500rpm redline where as the 1JZ has a 7000rpm redline.

I notice that the stock 1JZ tach is really sluggish too. If I hit the rev limiter (7500) in 2nd gear, the tach reads 7k :). I just stopped looking at it, and started shifting when it hit the limiter.

No that sounds about right. Pretty sure the rev limit is 7250(IIRC), not 7500. So if it's about 200 off give or take, then it would show aroudn 7k like you mentioned.

I was thinking about the 9k or 10k tach, I want to see how my standalone ecu display looks before deciding

I just might take a picture of a 9k or the 10k TRD tach then print my own back ground up and use the factory 7m tach with a diffrent back ground since there is an ECU output for the tach thats adjustable with my standalone setup!
