Yeah. It sucks! It's so nice out and I just want to drive the damn thing. I've also got a chip on the way from TRM, to install along w/ my custom 3.5" intake, HFM (Mass air sensor) and 21.5# injectors. Should bump my power from 240bhp to around 280ish.

Obviously I'm not installing any of that until I get all the bugs worked out. It WAS driving perfectly! The problem definitely sounds ignition related.

I'll be changing the valve cover gasket, plug hole gaskets, plugs, and plug boots, along with the crank position sensor and cam position sensor. I've already got all of it except the last two, which will be here Thursday.

That about rounds out all the ignition related crap except for the coils themselves, which I tested and they seem fine to me. All were within spec. Though, I read that it's not the primary coil that usually dies, but the secondary coil, which can't be tested or something stupid like that.

Oh well, I guess I'll find out soon!

Dang you and your 95 and OBD1!!!! Easy to do mods unlike me :(

Hope you solve your issue soon.

Hell yeah! I specifically looked for a '95. I originally planned to drop an s52 (your motor) in my chassis, but decided to go turbo in the long run.

Have you done the s/m50 manifold swap with a re-flash yet, Boris? That's been dyno proven for +40hp gains on the OBD2 cars!

Hmm may have to do that. I knew that the m50 manifold alone wont do much but I didn't know where do do the re-flash so I kinda gave up the idea. May have to look into it again before I hit up the track again.

Not yet. I plan on it this summer, though. I'd like to do it before the chip and 3.5" HFM/intake/21.5# injectors go in.

I can't get this thing to hold an idle right now, though. The only code I've got is 1226 (knock sensor #2) - but that shouldn't cause my symptoms. :(

Back to the drawing board!

I'm not terribly keen on OBD2 stuff, but I believe what you're looking for is called the Shark Injector- made by Jim Conforti. People who do the M/S50 manifold swap rave about it and the increased power!

well after the motor swap the m52 didn't hold a idle and would run really rough driving, ran the car on the comp and it showed alot codes but it was a AFM, it shorted out.

find someone with a stock AFM and switch it and try it out doesnt hurt to try.:icon_bigg

yeah you are correct, but boris if you can find a local bmw performance shop that make there own chips you can actually get them to tune the car to spec of what you install, and you would gain the TRQ back that you lost installing the manifold. jim conforti does make the chip and is recommended but theres more power that you can unleash with a custom tune:evil2:,

a local shop here did a 99 m3 with manifold, exhaust,CAI and pullies with the shark injector it layed down 260whp/240wtrq

with there tune they got it to 265whp/253wtrq:evil2: N/A powa!!

Yeah dude, sucks! I really need to get this thing back in shape. I'm going on another business trip on the 15th, I'd HATE to have to take my truck up there. :(

I don't know anyone local with an M3. :( I might be able to poke around and find someone, though.

I think I've got it figured out. Somehow, all the o-rings and pintle caps got sucked off the ends of my injectors. I had so much rogue air entering the motor (read: huge vacuum leaks!) that it's not even funny.

I just sent my 21.5# injectors to RC for cleaning, and am emailing TRM (http://www.racersmarket.net/) about a custom chip tune. I'll be installing my new injectors and 3.5" intake/HFM when everything gets here from RC and TRM. My issues should be solved! :)

For now, I've removed the cam cover to prep/paint flat black, replace the plug hole gaskets, and also the cam cover gasket and cove washers. I can't wait to feel the +40 extra horsepower from the new goodies! 280ish bhp in a 3100lb car that handles fantastically. Not bad!

Good to hear. I have been reading up on stuff to do to my car recently. Looks like tuning is going to be the hard part for me since it is not as simple as the OBD1 cars. But It seems like just putting the M50 manifold on alone will work with out a tune. But I think I will research more before I start doing anything.

Yeah, it'll work without a tune, but with a tune, you'll see much more substantial gains. :)

And thanks! I decided to paint the cam cover, too. Going with crinkle black high temp. These cam covers have many imperfections in the casting. :( And that old paint is a bitch to remove!

I should have some pics tomorrow, and have the cam cover back on. All I'll need to do is get my tune and injectors back from RC. :)

yeah the m50 manifold will give you a good hp gain but lose of torque, but id say with the OBD2 just do the minor mods if you want more power. CAI, full exhaust,m50,shark injectors, and power pullies, and a 11lbs flywheel. this will give your m3 a good amount of power without boosting :) :evil2:. ive seen local guys putting close to 300s with these mods :aigo:

I'll snap some pics when it finally stops raining and I can get some work done! LOL. I'm sure hoping to get a decent amount of power out of it. Boosting it will be far off in the distance. Gotta finish my Supra first, then my 7MGTE-> pickup swap. ;)

I'm sure there are few local M3 owners, I just haven't found any yet. LOL. I've waved at a few 3-series owners, but none of them ever wave back, even though some of them are modded. I'm sure there are plenty in the two near-by "cities"- I just haven't looked that hard yet. LOL.

I hear ya, man!

Got a few things done on the M3 today. I had literally 15 spare minutes, so I pulled the DME (ECU to the Supra guys) to replace the stock chip with the one from TRM (The Racer's Market) today via UPS express. (They're a fantastic crowd to deal with, highly recommend!)

And much to my surprise when I popped the cover off the DME compartment in the engine bay, that it had already been tampered with! The super-soft aluminum tabs that hold it together had been pried apart, and there was only one left! It's not really a big deal, but then I realized that this meant my car was probably already chipped! (which explains a few things... like me not losing to a few cars that would have taken me by just a wee bit if my car were bone stock)

Here's what I found:

Yep, a DINAN chip. :) Woo! That means I can sell this to recoup some of the money I spent on the TRM chip!

(Can't use the DINAN chip because it's not tuned for the 21.5# injectors and 3.5" HFM) ;)

That's all for today. Injectors show up tomorrow, hopefully I'll get a chance to pop them in. The car is beyond dirty now- covered in pollen and leaves. :(

Update:

IT LIVES! Wooo! Got the upgrades installed, it started up, died, re-started, idled like crap, but actually held an idle. (It didn't before). I unplugged the ISC, and bam, rock solid idle at 500rpm. (a tiny bit low, but it's perfectly smooth!) New ISC on order. LOL. Damn car is killing the 'ol wallet!

I refused to drive it in it's pollen covered state, so I ate me some dinner and washed the car afterwards. Pics soon. I took it out, and it's got a serious amount more power from 2500rpm straight to 7200! It pulls really, really nice. My corner exit speed is significantly higher, and the car just wants to cruise. I love it! (It's still no Supra, though!)

I think it'll even feel a bit better with a new ISC in there. :) Overall, I'm very satisfied with this setup. It's a good, fun, well handling, quick daily driver. I'm hoping nothing else goes wrong anytime soon. LOL!
