I was recently in an instant message with Ethan (92TealSupra), and he mentioned that you could use an 89 harness in a 92. I told him that the big square plug (he called it B1) did not match, and he said that the wiring was the same, only the plug was different. All I would need to do is cut off the connectors, and connect the wires. I then had to get back to work, and couldn't talk about any other differences.

Is it just that simple? Is there a place I can get the correct plug to swap onto my harness? Toyota, I guess???? And, is it called the "B1" plug? Is there anything else that I should be aware of?

I can't answer all your questions but yes you can indeed get the plug from toyota....but it will be very expensive unless you know how to pull the pins from the old plug without damaging them....cause toyota doesn't sell the plugs with wires...you'll need to purchase each wire 6" length to splice into the harness...dunno if this makes sense or not but yes you can buy from toyota.

Should be no reason why you cant do this. Just use a multimeter to verify the pins in your '89 harness are connected to the same items in the B1 plug in the diagram provided(ignore the 1JZ side) and repin them to a B1 plug accordingly. Hope this helps

To simplify, do the wires on the body side match in color to those on the harness? I have no idea how to remove pins from the plug. I was really hoping it would be available with pigtails.

Maybe DrTweak will see this need. I think I will PM him. I know I saw where he stocks some Toyota plugs.

They are avaliable with pig tails but yup have to buy each wire sep! The wire comes with the pin and all you have to do is shove it into the plug...the price racks up pretty quick at like $5 a wire and $20 a plug from toyota:-(

There are a couple different connector I think 2 under the glove box area and some by the engine bay fuse box, I said fuck it and bought a new harness for the right year instead, it is so nice I highly recommend it while they are still available.

the terminals are extremely easy to disconnect from the connectors. Unless the pins are totally different, don't cut anything. Just remove and re-insert.

That's the route I'm gonna go in a few months when I have the money.

Any tips on how to remove the wiring? or any type tool to make it extremely easy?

a set of precision screwdrivers. Use the smallest flat head driver.

to remove the pins, look into the connecting side of the plug. there will be a plastic tab on one side of the terminal that you lift and then pull the plug out. If I was at my car I could snap a picture of what I'm talking about, but unfortunately I'm at work.

Alright, time to chime in a little.

For starters these are the plugs you will be dealing with in your '92 as long as you're '92 is a turbo.

That is out of my '92 Teal Supra with a 5-speed from the factory.

Keep in mind that the reason why the B2 plug has so many wires is that most of these minus 2 are used fro the automatic transmission, if you have a manual you won't see this many. I made these with there colors on them to better help you.

Please remember that your M1 is now tiny off of your '89 harness, as well as the B1. So you will need those plugs if you want ti to fit into your '92 I think I may have one around here. Just let me know, we'll get you all setup and have this running quickly.

Thanks, but I need the 89 harness to mate up to what i have in the 92. Tha harness worked fine in my 89, which is still in the yard.

Colorcoding of the wiring is a little different between the two.
I did it the other way around and put a '92 engine harness in my '89 turbo. I resoldered almost all the grey plugs from my 89 on to the 92 harness.

The thing I found is that toyota changed the color coding a bit.
I'll try to explain but while english is not my native language it may be that i'm using the wrong words...

In the 92 harness the wiring has some sort of colored "ring" every some inches across the wires. Example:

If a wire on the 89 harness is black and red, the same wire in the 92 harness is also black and red, but it will have rings in yet another color every 2 inches or so.

I hope this makes sense?

This is true they will, but this didn't chnage the color, I noticed they added that too. Plugs are different, the biggest difference is the m1 plug on the '89 is TINY*
