You can check using the search button on here, but I think they both have the 3.73 gears in them. I'll probably ended up being banned for giving you the wrong info, but that's my answer and I'm sticking to it. There may be a difference in the early 89 and late 89's but I know you can use the one you're talking about. Good luck

I think this would also qualify as a techincal question, which means this is in the wrong section. You'd have a better chance of getting it answered if you post it in the right section.

I think the problem would be a diferent amount of teeth between the diffs. I may be wrong though. If they are the same ratio I don't think it will be a problem. If they are diferent you might need to have a custom driveshaft made.

i believe your diff is 3.73 dunno with out your axle vin code toysport tells more on axle codes!
Auto though haves 4.30 because the final gear on an auto is .65 the manuel is around .75 or .78 on final gear.

So the auto 4.30 is good for drag racing and stop go driving non daily driver clutch set ups. delivery jobs etc..

it sucks though on gas milage & top end performance you will rev a lot higher doesnt matter really if you have a 8k reving engine like a 1jz but on 7m you will rev around 3300 rpms going 70mph in 5th on a r154 with a auto 4.30 lsd.
Go here for further detailed vin code information.http://www.toysport.com/webpages/Techinfo/References/toyota20differentials20indentifications.htm

The weirdest hardest to get rear diff is the group A mkiii the race ones for toyota they had 3.20 perfect for v160 6 speeds but they made less then 10 of those diffs in the world.

there is a mistake on the mkiii website the 86.5-1992 sport package mkiii or upgraded rear diffs are LSD 4 pinion 4.30 not clutch torsen ones otherwise mine would have blew up on me a long time ago....

if you're referring to mkiiitech, try actually READING the information there....

Sport package N/A's always had a 4.3 lsd.
NO turbo cars came with 4.3's. At least not in the US.

I thought the turbo charged automatics come with 4.30 LSD
or should have come with them the automatic should drop the hp so much they went with the weaker diff.

I know manuel turbo comes LSD for sure.

dr jonez i did! see the bold in your quote that is wrong!
the MA70 never came with torsen/clutch lsd in the united states

the torsen rear diffs come with a vin code final digit #9

the MA70 came with the final code #5 for 4 pinion gear driven LSD in turbos standard sport package N/As and as an option in the N/As
For the MA70 non turbo non upgraded open diff the final digit was #4

for the best information goto here they decode the vin and break it down

sooooo, exactly where is my info wrong? sounds lke you're confused...torsen = helical style LSD. clutch pack = clutch-pack style LSD. where's the problem?

MA70 NEVER got a torsen LSD. they were clutch-pack only.

My bad
I have been mislead by a lot of people telling me the torsen is the clutch type on ebay and other places there is no mistake on the thread.
torsen ='s helical ='s worm gear ='s pinion lsd.

I have always been mislead to believe that tosen ='s clutch lsd

what ever you do dont get the clutch lsd and when you see oem 4.1 jdm torsen on ebay it is the clutch and not helical/pinion/wormgear

please accept my apology
