I'm part way into this already, but decided to post pics of my progress just for the hell of it. I've had this 89 supra for a couple years now, originally a turbo 5 speed.. I ran into some problems with it (some wiring problems, clutch went out, and blown head gasket) so I decided to take this opportunity to upgrade a little bit and swap a 1j into it. I'm not really looking for anything super powerful, just something a little more reliable.. and nicer looking..

Here's the car and a little bit where I'm at:

The blue one is the project car, black one is my daily driver and has, since this pic, been painted already

amazing job on the paint how long did the polishing take you?

Thanks. Polishing was done over a couple days between working on other projects.. my first time ever polishing aluminum.. I tried a lot of different techniques in the process, I think I got it down now.. the next time I polish anything, it should come out much better

This is my daily driver, NOT the 1j. I painted it viper black with green pearl as opposed to the blue pearl that I am doing with this current project.. just to give you guys an idea what the paint will look like on the car you can see a little bit of the green where the sun hits the car:

And in the shade it looks completely black

Did some more painting today.. as well as installing the engine harness on the engine and a few parts in the engine compartment.. doesn't look like much progress.. but it's a lot of cleaning and careful installation.. also, I'm still waiting on some parts.. such as a wiring harness and a/c compressor.. here's some pics:

Wow, I really like both of those paint jobs.

Thanks, I appreciate it. .. I still have a long ways to go.. I plan on going wide body, Similar to what tekdeus did on his "project cherry wide body" project with, of course, my own touch of awesomeness.. but one step at a time.. first step being getting the engine running the way I want it :)

I hadn't thought about this before... but do I need the charcoal canister for the 1jz?? I believe the front clip had one, but it looked different..

By the way, I went into this project with no experience in 1jz swaps and little to no knowledge on how to do the swap.. just kind of learning as I go..

not too sure if you really "need one" but i remember reading that they are mounted by the brake booster

The charcoal canister is only there to catch the fuel vapors from the tank. It's fine to vent it to the atmosphere unless you are trying to pass smog with the motor.
(prob can't anyways because 1j's have no egr.)
BTW when I'm ready to paint my car would you mind if I brought it to you?

It keeps positive pressure in the fuel tank to prevent the pump from cavitating.

Thanks for the info guys.

Another question:
I'm finishing up the wiring for the body plugs and I'm down to 4 wires that I'm pretty sure are for the TEMS

From the ma70 B1 plug:
2 (red with white stripe)
3 (red)
4 (black)
14 (purple)

Now here is why I am a little unsure.. all of the body plugs had been cut already from the 1j engine harness, which makes it just a little more difficult to identify the wires. Also, I am unsure if all the wiring harnesses come equipped with TEMS wiring..

Anyways,
There is one red wire with a white stripe on the engine harness unused that leads into one of the ecu plugs
There is one solid red wire that also leads into the same ecu plug
There are TWO black wires available, one that leads into the same ecu plug as the other red wires, and the other going into the body of the rest of the engine harness (also, one black wire has two gray dots on it, whereas the other has only one gray dot)
There is one solid purple wire unused that goes into the body of the rest of the engine harness

So, is it safe to assume that the wires that go into that ecu plug are the wires I need to splice into my ma70 B1 body plug??
And is it also safe to assume that the last purple wire is also for the TEMS? According to a diagram I saw, it looks as if there should be TWO purple wires, one unused and the other goes to TEMS.. but I only have one anyways

I would be happy to paint your car, It's what I do for a living.. although my shop is located in California City, not Lancaster.
