7M Regrets?

First thing is first. I’m not trying to start a 1/2JZ vs 7M thread here. We all have our own opinions on what engine is the best, and we have all expressed those opinions at least once on this site, there is no need to do it again. So please, don’t turn this thread into a war zone.

This question really only applies to those people who out there who originally wanted a car with a JZ series engine, but for whatever decided against it and stuck with a 7M – Do you regret not doing what you wanted to do engine wise or not?

Thanks

Josh

this is the most open ended question.

regret not doing what? going 1j? going single turbo?

are you really trying to decide if you want to put money into the n/a 7m, or just go 1j?

splain.

im glad im not the only one confused.

Even though he said he's not trying to war, he's asking for people why they do/don't regret tuning their 7M, which in itself is going to start a debate/war. :)

Right, I'll add a little more info.

I'd personally like an 2JZ NA-T setup in my car, but I've been offered a 7M-GTE for pretty cheap and after roughly pricing up everything, the 7M works out a lot cheaper, even with a metal headgasket + the required machining

I figured someone else had been in my position of wanting a JZ series engine, but "settled" for the 7M for what ever reason. I just wanted to know if they regret the decision at all.

The 7M is an awesome engine, plus it's 3 litres like the 2JZ. The only thing wrong with the 7M platform are people that don't know how to maintain them properly, and don't know how to build them properly. Then when they fail, it's the engine's fault. :icon_roll

^^^^ Rajunz speaks the truth.

If you can't build a 7M properly how will you be more successful with a 1J or a 2J - they aren't as bulletproof as you've been lead to believe.

I regret not going LSx each and every day the 7M isn't running but that all changes when it is ;)

Would you like a carburetor with that 1960's technology?? Pushrods FTL :)

7m is where its at. the sound, torque, horsepower, the recipe for a perfect motor. Not to mention no swap necessary.

i love my 7M...the power band is lovely...

Like said already..mine runs strong and its seen some rough conditions...but it still holds up (just everything around it is falling apart).

I don't see any point to switch to a 1jz...i may do a 2jz-ge-t swap....but i am having trouble justifying it because my motor now runs strong.

It is the original motor for the car...has 223 000km's(130000mi-ish) on it...compression at 170psi across the board....with no more than 1 psi difference. doesn't burn anything...and i am religious about maintenance. And this motor has seen 16psi on several occasions. So yes its strong. oh it has a stock head gasket with updated torque on new stock head bolts.

That said. regrets...hell no...and there is nothing more satisfying than bring that motor to 6 grand..it just sounds mean.

Then you need to take the "grumpy old man" out of your profile. IJ, your getting soft as of late. :biglaugh:

Edit: I suppose I should add to this as well. No regrets here.

lol... i love the LS1's. its just a saying floating around the anti-LSx swapping crowd. the LS1 belongs in most cars, including RX7's and 240's. mmm... L92 heads :naughty:, crower poke and stroke, magic stick 4, kooks, x, bullets, dumps... 125 shot. i think we have a winner!

I have stayed with the 7M (gte) after countless offers of cheap JZs...

I don't regret it for a second!!!!!!!!

(However i think i'm going to miss the 7M when i take her out next year for something a little different.... BUT.... the 7M will go into something else that will be a whole bag of fun ;))
