I was thinking of welding shock mounts to the subframe and using street rod style shocks like this.

That would work but you still have the LCA from the Titanic ;)

If someone has the skills to do this they have the skills to fabriate some arms and just use the Mk3 uprights/steering/brakes.

Rear shocks are going to be harder as they're mounted high on the upright due to the axles.

lol, titanic arms are ok with me. It's just a cruiser, no speedy driving with this one. Main reason I'm swapping to another suspension is to save some money. The stock suspension is pretty clapped out, and arcane to begin with, and parts for it are expensive. I can buy a prefabricated subframe kit that's ready to weld-on, but it's about $2800. Some guys where using camaro subframes, but I heard they don't fit very well. The supra subframe seems perfect so far, other than the lack of upper shock mounts.

I won't be using the rear subframe though, I already have a chevy S10 rear end that I plan to use. It's a pretty easy swap. The original rear will only work with the original transmission, so to swap in anything else I have to swap the rear end and get a normal driveshaft. Gonna stick with the solid axle back there for simplicity. I'd have to Z the frame to put the supra rear subframe back there because it would need about a 8 inch kick-up to sit level.

I'll have to get some newer ones, all I have are one or two I snapped of it when we were digging it out of the garage my uncle had it in. It hasn't changed much in the past 2 years since then. All I've done with it so far is clean it out, rebuild the carb, change the fluids and put some scrap tires on that hold air. It runs, but the gas tank leaks. I just don't have alot of time to work on this one.

lol ya. don't talk about wanting to build a cage for it yet. there is no it yet. ya still need to build the whole car! All you have is a subframe lol
Cage would be essentially 90% of the structure of the car.

really ratrod wasnt what I meant by what im planning/hoping/scheming for. more like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD0EQggALzo Seen several different things like this which are common at different hillclimbs, this was at mt washington climb to the clouds that I was at. so itd be cage tying together everything, and no parameters really to work around for fitment of things to a certain extent.

Oh, so like a dune buggy. That would be pretty cool. If you had a rusted out parts car you could probably get 90% of what you need from the car (steering column, wiring, seats...).

Exactly! this idea has been stuck in my head for a while involving mk3 stuff.
Another guy I met at a hillclimb had an sti that he caged and then cut away the whole car but the floorpan and shock towers, then added more cage. thing is a beast. 600 hp, 650 lbft 2000 lbs. he also has a rollcage business though.

Nice fleetline. The back end on those looks so much nicer than the styline, especially with the chopped top.
