So I thought I would try and be cleaver and do the I/C pipes myself with a universal kit and here is what I managed to come up with before I got to p$%t off and left the garage

Any one have some suggestions of a better way of running these pipes? I so wanta ffim!

I should also mention this is just a mock up and the red joiners are just there to hold it together cheap crap that came with the kit so most red sections im going to get welded
ic 9 (Medium).JPG
Will this cause my coolant and p/s fluids to get too hot?
ic 10 (Medium).JPG
should I run it this way
ic 1 (Medium).JPG
or this way? or something compleatly different
ic 7 (Medium).JPG
these last two just seem like waaay too much pipe work
ic 8 (Medium).JPG
and where have you guys put yor p/s resevior

I bought the CXRacing kit off of e-bay and I'm having the same problems. The kit is f'ing retarded and doesn't even come with the pipe that goes up to the turbo.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent aftermarket hardpipe set-up that doesn't cost and arm and a leg?

I have a CX kit, and it worked for me. Well almost. I did have to get a few more couplers and clamps, but it's in and working great. My build thread has some pics: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92669&page=4 but they're only the topsections. Gotta get around to taking more pics, cause I promised kotu I would. Just take your time, it'll work out.

:)

the only part i was really worried about was the hotside on the IC, cuz of that U bend. everything else should be just like every other IC piping kit.

If you can get some nice pics of how you mounted the IC, the underside, and your pipe coming off the turbo you would be my hero :)

Us teal guys gotta stick together.

edit: this is what I bought:

No comment, as I'm sure by now you realize the benefit of buying a quality kit made for our cars.

Why not get a piece of straight pipe and run it UNDER those hoses, similar to how the stock pipe runs? Running your pipe THROUGH and over those lines makes no sense.

That way looks better, and seems like it's a shorter path for the air to reach your intake.

Agreed. Once again, the difference between a cheap universal kit; and a quality kit designed to fit the Supra.

What's wrong with the stock GTE location?

i just put my CXRacing piping kit on this weekend. The biggest mistake that i think you made was getting a side by side intercooler. That just adds headache and more piping. A spearco or the replica would of made it alot easier. I ended up welding in a 30 degree cut at the top of the pipe so the coupler would fit on the turbo then a straight followed and the i cut a 90 degree in half at the bend giving me a 45 at the end. This made it level with the car and could then so the piping from there. If you have questions i can snap some pics tonight when i get home.

I think I'm going to shitcan the intercooler (or sell it) that came with the CX kit. The lower flange hangs right below the lip, so the undercover won't go back on.

I got my intercooler to fit....had to get creative and make my own brackets, but it's on there. I'm sure I could put the under-car cover on too if I had one.

Do you have the bumper support still on there? Did you move the PS coolers?

Pretty much gets in the way of any non-stock inlet pipe....like the Cooleeze for example.

That may be true with some kits, but I've seen quite a few that leave the power steering reservoir in the stock GTE location such as these:

It's all in how you route the pipes. :)

Don't get rid of it, you just need to modify that center brace a little bit. I fit a 24X18X4 unit in there, with a little modification.

my buddy got the cxracing kit, it looked like it would fit pretty good in there. gonna make a bracket to get rid of the hood latch support, so we can clear up all that space.

no definitely not, see how the end tanks are, the air will be flowing in and out of that endtank without necessarily flowing through the IC core.

unless there was a splitter inside the endtank i see that being incredibly inefficient.
