7M-GE Inquiry

Ok so I just got done reading a thread about how someone was BSing that they had so and so HP in a 7m-ge. Anyways it got me thinking, and I've very curious. I'm not into spending crazy amounts of money, and I'm not really wanting to be doing a eng swap. I would love to try and get maybe 225HP out of my GE and have most the parts painted or polished to have a nice clean look. My main question here is what I'm wanting to do in the realm of possibility? And if possible can there be even more HP to be had out of the GE, and I already understand that you can't really do much with em, I'm just generally curious is all. Thanks for the help Community.

Also mind you I'm just looking for a very tasteful amount of mods, and a very clean appearance.

Well If your looking to stick to the basics, for a slight power gain. I would look into upgrading to an aftermarket exhaust, a less restrictive air intake(the one in the GE is crap), and maybee upgrade your exhaust manifold for after market headers. As long as you pick a subtle exhaust you will stay low key. Hope this helps.

Actually, please forgive me. I should have stated what I had in mind already, and then asked if there was anything else. Currently what I have in mind was replacing the following parts with Aftermarket stuff.

-Spark plugs & wires
-Intake & filter
-Exhaust manifold
-Cat back exhaust (not sure what to pic because I want clean and Subtle)
-Fuel pump, rail, and injectors
-Possibly a port and polish

Is that pretty much as far as I can go with the GE? I know the following might be a hard question to answer but If I did all that what kind of HP do you think I would be at? And does anyone know what after market brands sell those parts. I think I'm gonna go with some Pace setter parts, because I really like their ceramic headers, and flat back cat-back exhaust. I appreciate all the help offered and thanks for the quick responces.

Oh and one more thing. will the ARZ Performance willwood brakes fit my non-turbo or does GTE or GE matter when it comes to the brakes? Thanks again

if your going to go through all of that stuff look into a cam regrind, theres a few companies that will modify the stock cams.

and why change the fuel rail? new pump + injectors = AFPR, wideband, and tuning device

Well, the main problem is that none of the mods you've got planned are really going to give you any more power. Headers will help a little, the same for a less restrictive exhaust, but beyond that you're going to need more. That is if you're talking about getting 225HP at the wheels and not just the crank.

I'd probably start with some tuning and cams. Then, if that didn't satisfy, I'd start looking into larger, higher compression pistons.

EDIT: Oh and if you're set on wanting injectors, don't get larger injectors just get a good matched set with an excellent spray pattern.

That much power to the wheels is going to get expensive IMHO...

Going with nitrous or a turbo is still the cheapest way to go fast with the GE, it's not corked anywhere nearly as bad as the GTE is and you won't see power gains like the turbo guys from the same mods...

I was under the impression that if you NA-T you should not go past 7 PSI?

I was actually hoping to stay NA anyways, no super, no turbo. Don't ask me why but I just feel that either is an instability, IMO atleast.

Aj, you have referenced your sig multiple times, but you dont have a sig that appears when you post. :dunno:

I guess I'm not using the right term. My user name I ahould have said, it gives the profile and my list of mods. Didn't know you've been keeping such a close eye on me, thought that was CRE's job :)

Turbo is extremely simple, has one moving part...

I used to be the same way, but getting an N/A to that level is MUCH harder on the engine...

215rwhp has been done with a 6MGE with ITBs, no serious/crazy internal mods done.

It's all about how creative you are ;)

as for the exhaust, i've been taking a good look at HKS's sport. it's got 2.5" mandrel bent piping and a muffler that looks stock. normally i'd go with something else but we've got an HKS sport on my g/fs mr2 and it sounds incredible.

again, not much of a gain but there's liable to be some. wish i had more info on it, a dyno comparison would be nice. this is the only pic i can find, and i've never heard a sound clip.

Takes a lot to get 200 RWHP. Take a look at my mods on my signature, it's a long list.

I was under the impression that the 7M-GE came stock 200HP, and the 7M-GTE came stock with about 240HP. Was I misinformed?

Do you really feel that I would be more satisfied if I went with the GTE? The way i'm hearing it so far is that it would be less expensive to just swap in a GTE and moderatly tune it to the desired HP, then to try and do it to a GE?

swap to a GTE, I just did and the difference is night and day. The crazier you get, the more expensive it is, but you don't see like you want street terrorizing performance, just enough cajones to shut up most ricers at will..:D

The money you can spend fixing up your NA, is around the same as rebuilding a 7m with MHG and going with small BPU mods...
