the mk1 supras started with a solid axle but evetually went IRS even before the change to mk2. I have seen an IRS mk1 rear put in a 1st gen celica but it was a HUGE mod. The IRS is quite a bit wider not to mention the subframe is comepletely different (bear in mind a mk1 supra is actually a 2nd gen celica not 1st gen). The first gen celicas have a coil spring rear so no leafs, a solid axle and its a 4-link setup. Swappin in the MK1 solid rear is actually pretty straight forward BUT, most people only swap in the 3rd member and not the entire rear end. Swapping the entire rear end requires shortening the axles and housing. It is most definately not a "bolt in affair".

Im more of a slant nose 1st gen fan (71-75) rather than the flat nose (76-77), but a 1J in either is damn sexy and that one looks to be done right. Its definately a project I have dreamed of for a long long time.

The MKI Supra rear end is also bolt-in to any MKIII Celica ST and GT, and will fit in AE86s with slight modifications. And MKII Supra rear ends bolt into MKIII a Celica GT-S. Toyota likes making parts interchangeable.

I'm currently looking for one for my 83 Celica :)
