You changed an automatic to a five speed by yourself in five hours? Their not talking about changing the clutch out. If you did that by yourself in five hours then you should quit your day job and open up a shop. You'd make millions if not thousands............lol

Matt, one hour on the pedal swaps is pretty good. You're not a small person, and you didn't look to be a contortionist. I had to remove my front seat so I could even get under the dash to see the bolts. Great job fellas. Yet again, I wish I had supra owners near me to help me out, but their are none. RacerXJ220 is probably the closest and he's two and a half hours away.

My wife is alot of things: beautiful, sexy, great mother, good cook, but I don't think she know which way to hold a ratchet.
Luckily my neighbor loves to work on cars....................for money, not friendship..................lol

Umm the hardest part was the pedal i agree how i never removed the seats i dont see why u had to i m 6'2 and 210 all i did was go head first under the dash and worked upside down ..... but the point i m making is that it can be done in one day pretty easy if you know what you are doing

1hr for the pedal is about right

3.5hrs
remove the auto stuff (tranny and driveshaft)
the manual stuff to go up (tranny and driveshaft)
4 wires to cut and slice(reverse light and neautral)
Put all the crap back in the car

Very nice! I'm guessing you did not pull the engine then...just tranny?

Hell no i dont pull the motor unless it is broken .... u waste too much time doing that but it does make things easier to get too. But the question is time because you are going to be working no matter what. I rather work hard for 2hrs and be done than work for 8 and be comfortable ..... i like driving my car

I took the seats out, because I have already had one back surgery and didn't want another one..................:biglaugh:
My back doesn't fold up like a lawnchair like it did when I was younger. I'm almost thirty seven, I may be buried next year if I'm not careful...............lol

Its no worries i will be 22 in jan ..... But i have been working on cars since i was like 5 bleeding brakes actually pumping but u get the point. I have an 89 for almost model going on 6 years bought my n/a right before my 16th birthday. 5 yrs with a N/A and 1 with a turbo i know my car pretty well and we all know how much faster things go when u know how to do something. My first rebuild on my n/a took me almost 8months my second about 3monts and my turbo took a week and half to get her back on the road in feb.

^ I'm lazy and I don't like to work hard, so I'll stick w/ the engine/trans pulling.

Anyone know what would make the ABS light come on, other than hitting ice or something of that sort?

there is an abs sensor that hooks up to the trans.

I did it in a day, the biggest thing is you need to have all your parts ready to go. I made a plug'n'play wiring harness. This saved some time and you wont have to cur anywires on the car if you want to go back. You can get the pigtails at a local yard. Many early 90s toyotas share the same connectors. I also ran a 1pc steel braided line with metric to AN adapters right from the master to the slave. If you have all your parts and are ready to go its pretty straight forward and can be done in one day.

Notes:

-Piloting the trans is a pain without notching the shifter hole. Tipping the engine back is key.

-Pedals are easy, remove both interior covers ducting and two electronic boxes and you will have plenty of room to work. You shouldn't have to remove anything else, including the seat.

-Stock exhaust or Apex'i GT spec exhaust does not have to be removed or disconnected at all. Other exhausts probably don't either but I have no way of knowing.

-Getting the adapter harness done before hand will save you a good amount of time under the car.

-Running a 1pc braided line will save you lots of swearing because you wont have to weave the stock hardline in.

the hard part is getting the spindal(*SP) to line up with the engine to bolt it back up...... . If u go to the hardware store and buy two extra long bolts that are thin and long enough to slide through the tranny and engine it make 100x's easier.

Taking it out!
1) Drop exhaust from the turbo or elbow and driveshaft (i drop it from the turbo back and driveshaft i drop it from the U-joint i leave connected to the diff but u will need to swap the two driveshafts)
2) Put a jack under the tranny and then drop the tranny from the rear support/cross-member not sure wat the technical name is but u cant miss it.(the engine and tranny will tilt backwards and toward the ground)
3) Losen the two top bolts first and then the other 8 i believe
4) Then losen the 2 wing brackets on the bottom of the engine and connect to the lower part of the bell-housing
5) Find another person or 2 to help wiggle the tranny lose from the engine(i had some help at that point i was not interested in having that tranny drop on my hands)

Putting her back up!
I used another jack and a piece of wood to raise the front of the engine higher so that the bell-housing would have more room when re-installing. I just lifted higher from the harmonic balancer with a block of wood ..... i doubt that it would cause a problem but some people might not think its the greatest idea but in 5 years never had a problem b/c of that ......

1)All u need is a good jack and a decent piece of wood to keep the tranny on the jack in a level manner.
2) Lift the tranny up with the jack and line up the holes. Someone might need to lift the front of the tranny a bit to line up the holes
3)Slide the hardware bolts through and start to tighten them evenly 1 by 1 and thats its.
