i just bought this car a few weeks ago and have been working on it since i bought it... just fixing little things.. its a 88 turbo targa with 65000 original miles on it..
as it sits right now-
-k&n intake
-megan 3" downpipe
-3" test pipe
-stock cat back
-hks bov
-manual boost controler
-msd spark plug wires
-10 psi

what is soon to come-
lipp turbo elbow
cooleze turbo intake pipe
HKS 3000 pipe
metal head gasket
arp bolts
re-sirfaced/portt&polish head
hks dragger exaust

what kind of power can i expect from these mods?

You'll have to do a search on that subject and you'll find out everything you need to know. Good luck, Jay

I was running 16 psi on a stock head gasket. Do some research and you'll find all of the answers you need. There are numerous threads on this subject. Good luck.

Just in case you don't know...the dragger exhaust is really quiet and heavier than other options that are out there. Look into the BIC exhaust systems or custom if you want something louder.

Also, if torqued properly the OEM head gasket has been proven to last under moderate boost. However, for piece of mind with a 400hp build, I would personally put in a MHG.

As for hp estimate...I have roughly the same mods and I put down 280/330. I was told that my numbers were exceptional so take that with a grain of salt. You never know till you strap it to a dyno.

The real question is " how much hp can I run on the stock internals and turbo" PSI has less to do with power than flow.

I too run 16psi on stock hg. As Jay says research is key, don't just slap parts on without knowing how/why they work.

Though I agree 10psi on a motor you know nothing about can't be good. Need to check integrity of motor (compression test, etc.) and do basic maintenance first.

After all that your next big obstacle will be fuel cut. Read/research for all your questions to be answered.

well the HG is mose deffinatley blown (coolent in the oil) so im takeing the head out to get re-sirfaced, etc. so is it worth it to do a port&polish? how much dose this normaly cost? and yes i have the MHG to replace the stock one.. and arp bolts.. any more tips on putting it all back togeather once i get it back from the mechine shop? and what is the best site to order parts online?

Yeah 400's easy 65K bottom end no probs......:nono:

Ask for a show of hands those that have a genuine 400rwhp in street trim more than once without any dyno cheats......

If it were that easy EVERYONE would make 400+.

if it needs it... but if not why fix it if it ant broke? (= it only has original 65000 miles on it..

Oh it will be pretty damn soon if you don't replace the rod and main bearings along with the thrust washers ;). Coolant in your oil eats the soft bearings up pretty quickly. Do a search on, "hey I did my HG repair, now I have rod knock".

:wavey: I got 400 rwhp, Ian! No cheating! :icon_bigg Of course I always want more...the engine has held up really well and the key (as everyone always will tell you) is to get a good tune.

Well I have similar yet different mods on my car, same amount of mileage on the clock and put down 309 with a SAFC wizard on a local dyno. Those numbers were pretty good on a babied old car (old man, receipts from everything back to new and serviced at toyota its whole life). Realistically you won't come near 400hp on a stock turbo ...

And that's where Ian's remake comes in, if it were easy then everybody would be doing it!

Also, do you plan on prepping your block at all with this MHG? If not then you're just asking to blow it again. And what cryoslash said is absolutely correct, "just fixed BHG now rod knock?!?!!" ;)

First get the Metal head gasket, even 10 psi is too much for that crapy oem gasket.

you need to to much, much more research, because you're spewing out bullshit. if you don't know the true reasons, then don't post.

i'll be kind enough to enlighten you.

the OEM composite headgasket is plenty durable, and doesn't require as smooth of a finish as a metal headgasket (MHG). it does still, however, require that the head and block deck be flat (as checked with a mechanic's straight edge). the stock headgasket CAN and WILL take 10psi, especially on a stock CT-26. the problem that gives the stock composite headgasket a bad reputation is that the factory torque specifications for the headbolts is too low. they should be at 72ft lbs, not 50-something.

THAT is the reason, and the ONLY reason that so many stock 7M's blow headgaskets IF they're maintained properly. (and i mean everything maintained properly)

if you get an upgraded turbo, and TUNE the car well, you can even make a stock headgasket last quite a while depending on your power level.

so, why am i telling you all of this? so you don't spread that crap that you posted before all over the place. many people won't be as nice as we are. ;)

Might want to make sure the rest of the engine is fine before just replacing the HG and throwing everything back together, depending on if and how long you were driving around with coolant in the oil.
