What credit? I asked you to tell me why it does deserve any credit and you told me because it makes X amount of power....

Thats not good enough reason at all to deserve any credit from me.
Maybe my opinion would be similar if I wasnt going to a college that revolves around motorsports.....

If these aren't specs "worthy" of a sports car in the Zs class, I don't know what else to tell you.

I'm not going to explicitly spell everything else out for you. Learn to read and comprehend a little better.

but all you are doing is comparing an apple to an orange as to why its a great engine. Your taking a 3.5L displacement with much higher compression and comparing it to an egine that is a 3.0L displacement with lower compression.

Wow you know how to pull up a page on specs for a car, now explain how they make it a great engine....oh wait its because it makes X amount of horse over another

Lower the compression of VQ, raise the boost to compensate, and it still performs as well. People do this with NA-T 7Ms, 2Js, or any other motor that started life as an NA.

That's like the 3rd time I've said it.

This is getting really old.

It's obvious to me you have some chip on your shoulder about the Z and its VQ.

Maybe you got punked by a few Zs while driving your Supra? I don't know. And at this point, I don't care. Believe what you want. This is wasting time now. I even told you it was on Ward's top 10 for many years. If you cared enough to read more about what makes it a great engine, you could have. I don't need to do all the work for you.

Nope sorry never raced one at all. It just furthers myself to not beleive any opinion you have on an engine. Joe this has been the 3.5 specifically, not the VQ in total. A quick check shows what maybe that the 3.5 started in 2000?not 95'

What about the VQ makes it NOT a great engine? You're just being extremely stubborn. Why? I don't know. What vested interest do you have in not giving credit where its due? Since you're such a smart guy, why don't you tell me what's not to like about it? Please don't say it's a V6 and hard to work on.

Yeah, I guess I don't know WTF I'm talking about when it comes to engines or cars because I can admit the Nissan VQ is a great engine that happens to make near the same amount of power as a 2J without the use of any turbos.

If the VQ wasn't such a great engine, Nissan would not be using it in a number of their cars. Just like the 1J and 2J, which we all agree are great engines, made it into a ton of Toyota cars.

What the hell did this just turn into during my lunch break? A pissing contest? :nono:

:dunno:

All I said was the VQ is a great engine. :dunno: then Mr. Know-it-all got so up in arms in making me do all the work to support it even though he wasn't willing to try himself, actually follow the references I gave, or give any reasons to why it's not.

Does anyone else here really think the VQ isn't a great engine or "worthy" to be in the Z? I guess Nissan fucked up by putting that 306hp V6 in there. :dunno:

*Oh oh, me:runaway:

You two are funny.

The VQ is an impressive engine. Easily one of the best designed "V6" engines out there. However I'm of the personal opinion(i.e it's MY opinion so I don't have to defend it as fact) the Nissan did screwup putting that particular motor in the Z. Or at lease not doing something a little more interesting with it. Because the one I drove was sadly depressing, it had nice throttle response, but I still felt like I was driving a Maxima with no leg room. Unfortunately the VQ series motors were designed to be torquie NA power houses, and they do a good job at that. But they don't take to boost as well as a JZ series motor that was designed for it. To me there is nothing that really distinguishes it ,in terms of the driving experience, for from say a manual Maxima.

I feel the same way about NA Supras. :)

Have you driven the new '08? I haven't. But the power increase is substantial and I bet they're not as boring to drive as the earlier year Zs.

I'm sure Nissan could have given it something with more power or turbos but they built it the way they did for a reason. It's priced in a certain class and has sold pretty damn well and although it's not as quick as most of our modded Supras are, it's not exacty slow either.

I asked you about why you think its a great engine. The best answer you could give me is it makes more hp/tq and some links that show some information. I already stated my opinion that the engine is fine for family vehicles but for a "sports car" they could've done a lot better.

Next time when you voice your opinion on engine being so great you might want to have some underlying information to back it up besides just Horsepower numbers

I swear you are so dense. I gave you references to a site talking ALL about the VQ. Did you even read it yet?

And out of this whole thread you haven't really said anything. Haven't disproved my points about the power they make and haven't even given a reason why it's not a great engine.

I guess the 7M is only fit for family sedans too. They could have done better.
