2jz Clutched Fan?

If you didn't see my other thread about my flex-a-lite fans, here is a cliff notes:

-car came with a koyo rad and dual flex a lites
-one of the fans kicked the bucket
-im either looking to replace the dead fan or replace the entire dual fan setup

The car has a 2jz-ge, 76mm turbo, th400. So my question is, how well does the clutched fan setup work? I know there is a ton of ppl that say electric fans are nothing but problems, but what is the alternative? clutched fan setup? So my question is, how well does the clutched fan hold up? I'm looking to rev the car to 7-7500rpm, and hopefully make 8-900whp through the th400.

With the koyo rad, if I went to the clutched fan, would I be able to get a fan shroud to fit? What clutch/fan/shroud would I need? Is there any CFM figures out there for the clutched fan setup?

Thanks
Ryan

1200HP MKIV local guy runs stock fan clutch and upgrade Koyo on his MKIV.

JZ thread has setups for a JZ in a MKIII that friends are running and works.

2JZ-GE Blade
Shroud Does Not Fit To Well <---------- this is the 7m shroud i am assuming? Are they all the same between na/turbo/auto/manual?

The shroud does not fit to well without some modifications. They are the same but one has holes for the two extra fans or a single extra fan. No difference other than that.

You can modify it to fit if you would like.

Razoe, what mounts did you use? Most likely the BIC ones.

There are no differences between the mounts. BIC or oem they fit the same. Upgraded radiators are hard to fit. Im running a mishimoto and have solid mounts so im not worried about the clearance issues, did have to ditch the shroud though. I Need to make a custom one

I would agree but local guy is using BIC ones and his Koyo doesn't fit with the blade setup that I am using on my car with the Koyo. I can't say the 1JZ/2JZ blocks are different other than height not length.

Who knows why some Koyo's fit and some done. :dunno:

I am running 2JZ swap in my MK3, Brand new Koyo rad, brand new "2jz-gte" fan clutch, and a GE fan... I am kind of stumped because the fan blades overlap the upper water neck hose by like an inch, so the blade does not look like it fits. Unless i space the fan forward or majorly trim the blades, I am unsure what to do! Ill throw a picture up, but maybe driftmotion sent me the wrong fan clutch or something.

Can't be an inch. I had to trim the blade. I believe Dustin did it as well.

So your saying there is a chance if I order the 2JZ clutched fan that it might not fit with my koyo rad? Is there anyone that could measure from some reference point to the furthest point on their fan for me? Id like to measure and make sure its going to fit on my car before I go ahead and order all the parts.

I wont really have to worry about the upper rad hose hitting, as I'm running the GE block/head that has the water neck on the drivers side. It sits higher then the GTE water neck, which comes out on the pass side.

I trimmed my water neck. I would measure but im out of town. The GE fan blade sits closer to the block and the GTE sits farther from the block. I could not use the GTE fan blade as it was hitting my radiator.

Nope, custom mounts made by my good friend. I used a 7M-GE clutch on a 2JZ-GE fan on a stock radiator, and I had maybe 1 1/2 inches until it hit the rad, so we switched over to electric fans off a Mercedes.

This is a GTE clutch, and a GE fan blade. quite a bit of trimming needed.... look correct?

This has to be a 2JZ thing, us 1JZ guys don't have that issue. We'll the few 1JZ cars I know, don't.

This is true, local 1j cars dont have the problem. You either

1. run gte fan blade with oem size radiator and keep water neck stock

2. run ge fan blade with thicker radiators but shorten waterneck by cutting and re welding. I would not notch because it will throw fan out of balance.

You can find a local shop that im sure will cut it for cheap and weld it.

Something new to add to the JZ thread!
