A friend of mine is doing a 2jzge to 2jzgte swap in his 93 supra and the oil pans are different (sump position). What oil pans come with what cars? He says he ordered a mkIV 2j but the pans are different, I thought they would be the same so I think he got the engine from a different car.

is it a USDM engine?

the only USDM 2JZ's came out of other Supras, and should have "Toyota 3000" on the cam cover, while the 2JZ's (non-VVTi) out of GS and SC300's have a Lexus symbol on them.

If the engine is JDM, then it's out of either an Aristo (GS300) or another Supra, in which case, I believe the oil pans are different (rear/mid sump)...

Huh? There is no "other" Supra. If it's a Supra, the pan is in the rear LOL. Don't matter if it's JDM, USDM or MadagascarDM

It is going into a 93 supra. He is just swapping out his ge to gte. So what cars with a 2jz came with the different pans (mid, rear, front sump)

I meant between those two engines, and I said another, not "other" supra...

he got an aristo pan if its front sump

aristo - front
mkiv supra - mid-ish
1jz supra - rear
most other stuff wont matter unless it's VVTI

post a pic or check my build thread (i went from aristo front sump to 1jz rear sump)

Why doesnt he swap over the pan from the ge to the gte? I am confuzzled.
Will a ge pan from an sc300 not fit into a mk3?

Does the gte pan have the oil return or does it to return on the block?

GTE pan has the turbo drain in it. He cannot use his GE pan for this reason.

ALL 1JZ, and 2JZ GTE rear sump pans are the same. He just needs to order one from a 93TT Supra or something of that sort if it's going in a Supra.

(1jz pan on 2jz)

if he is going to turbo he might as well swap to a gte

i think its actually cheaper just to buy a 1jz engine than buy new 2jz pans they are expensiivee (locally and with a discount) and sell whats left on the 1jz to make up hehe

Hmm. I don't really see how, but ok. All I have to do is unbolt the motor mounts and tranny mount and jack the engine up 2 or 3" to get the M oil pan off. Not that hard really.

The JZ pans can be changed somewhat the same way, the engine needs to be jacked up more than 2" or 3" but doesn't have to come out. BUT, that is not to say it's easy, or fun in any way.

3" is all you need to take out the JZ pans too. Unbolt the motor mounts, and you have enough clearance to take the whole pan off. I found it quite easy actually.

all will work on 1jzgte 1jzge 2jzgte 2jzge engines i havent seen the mid sump clearance on a mkiii supra but i have the rear in mine now and it fits perfect

sorry know its a bump :)
