1jzgte swap- new guy has a rich running Raider!

Hi everyone. I'm going to try to make this as short as possible. I just finished a 1jzgte swap into a small truck. (pics later) The truck runs, starts fine but appears to run as if in limp mode. (very rich mixture)

I checked the caps on the ECU after searching. They were leaking. I replaced them. The ECU was also a Buddy club modified ECU with a ribbon wire going to a piggy back. I removed that while in there to minimize variables.

I'm using all standard parts save for a Walbro inline 255 which is making my base pressure too high. I know that.

The ECU is throwing a Code 31 for MAP sensor. The MAP sensor is connected. I connected a 2jz Map sensor and the code remained after resetting.

When I drove the car there was no boost (car would misfire under load and foul plugs)

At this point I might need an ECU due to acid damage. Is there anything else that you guys can think of that sounds familar? This is a rare engine and information is very difficult to come by.

Does anyone have a JZA70 ECU for sale (MT)?

I don't really want to get more parts unless I can be sure. I'm in MA if anyone near Boston is reading this and feels so compelled to lend me an ECU for 5 minutes.

Thanks for reading.

LOL at the "Brack Box". Reminds me of kim jong il from team america. If it's throwing a map sensor code check your vacuum line to the map sensor for restrictions and doublecheck continuity from the map sensor connector to the ecu plugs. If that checks out and you've got a known good map sensor then you may want to try swapping ECU's, it's not uncommon for 1jz computers to take a dump.

Also, a walbro shouldn't affect your base pressure unless your fuel pressure regulator is having issues or you're using a return line that is posing a significant restriction.

My symptoms of a blown ecu were similar to yours, would run extremely rich at idle throwing out black smoke, engine would cut out, also wouldn't rev past 3k rpm

I tried to fix it by replacing the 5 capacitors in the ecu, this didn't work. I then found that the fluid from one of the capacitors flowed under an adjacent component and kept shorting it out. It had about ten soldered pins so was tricky to remove without damaging it

I removed the dry fluid and voila worked fine ever since

ALL CAPACITORS NEED CHANGING AS IF ONE IS LEAKING THE OTHERS WONT BE FAR BEHIND

Big Supe, those are the exact conditions I'm having. I need to find a new ECU.

To put some closure to this thread- the ECU helped the rich condition and overall driveability. The old ECU had some bad acid damage on the board. The truck is nearly done but I'm facing a strange issue with not being able to rev over about 4000RPM. It's not load or boost dependant. AFRs are constant and healthy, no other known problems.

Thanks a lot man. I really need like 5 minutes of an experienced member's time to sort out the 1jzgte specifics. This is my first Toyota powered build.

its not a timing issue then? double check it just incase i know about half of the problems i see with not being able to go over a certain RPM are because of timing issues (belt slipping or even improper installation of the timing belt)

I dont think the're is enough pictures of this truck. More pics please.:stickpoke

I'll post more pics soon. I have a few but not too many good ones. I know that the timing belt is on right. I have double checked it and I also think that the truck is running too well to have a mechanical timing problem.

I feel like it's something dumb, like some connector that's not hooked up and it's in limp mode or something. I have no idea how well these engines run in limp mode but it could be.

There's a pigtail connector coming out of the ECU with a 4 pin connector on it. What's that for?

I'll make a youtube vid of the condition so people can hear it.

Here's another pic to wet your collective whistles.
